The Arvind Kejriwal government on Wednesday announced free travel for registered construction workers in public buses, a move that will benefit over 10 lakh people in the national capital.


Announcing the launch of the scheme, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the labour department portfolio, distributed free bus passes to 100 construction workers.


"Ten lakh workers have been registered in Delhi. In the last one year, the Kejriwal government distributed Rs 600 crore among the 10 lakh registered workers (under various welfare schemes), which is the highest amount distributed among workers in the entire country," Sisodia said addressing a gathering of beneficiaries. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray Tuesday appealed to the people and his supporters to play Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques from May 4 if loudspeakers were not removed.


In an official statement released Tuesday, the MNS chief said, "I appeal to all Hindus that tomorrow, the 4th of May, if you hear the loudspeakers blaring the azan; in those very places, play the Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers! That's when they will realise, the hindrance of these loudspeakers."

Play Hanuman Chalisa If You Hear Loudspeakers 'Blaring Azaan': Raj Thackeray


Undeterred by registration of a case against him, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Tuesday urged people to play the Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers on Wednesday wherever they hear loudspeakers "blaring azaan" (Islamic prayer call) .


In an open letter, he asked people to lodge complaint with the police by dialling 100 if they are distributed by the sound of 'azaan'.

"One must complain daily," the MNS leader said. "I appeal to all Hindus that tomorrow, the 4th of May, if you hear the loudspeaker blaring with azaan; in those places, play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers. That's when they will realise the hindrance of these loudspeakers," Raj Thackeray said in the letter.


Police On High Alert Over Loudspeaker Row In Nagpur, Thane


Maharashtra Police launched a state-wide crackdown on Raj Thackeray's MNS leaders and activists ahead of its May 4 deadline to remove loudspeakers from mosques and then other places of worship.


Over 7,000 policemen have been deployed in Nagpur city amid the loudspeaker row triggered by MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who has told authorities to get them removed atop mosques by May 4 or face the consequences.


Meanwhile, over 350 police officials, 7500 constables, nine SRPF platoons and 300 home guards have been deployed in the commissionerate in Thane. Police have said it had issued notices to 1,400 persons who are likely to disturb the peace of the city.


PM Modi To Attend Bilateral Meets In Denmark On Wednesday 


In his first visit to Denmark on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met met his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen and the two leaders reviewed progress of the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and also exchanged views on regional and global issues.


According to reports, PM Modi will take part in bilateral and multilateral engagements on Wednesday. He will also meet Queen Margrethe II. Additionally, PM Modi will attend the India-Denmark Business Roundtable and interact with the Indian community in Denmark.


Heatwave To Abate Further In North India On Wednesday


Heatwave has abated from all parts of the country and the maximum temperature has further fallen by two to four degrees Celsius over Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, the India Meteorological Department said. No part of northwest, central and east India is likely to record a heatwave over the next five days, the MeT office said.


The mercury in the capital settled at 38.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, even as the weather office predicted dust storm or thunderstorm on May 4. The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy sky and possibility of development of thunder and lightning predicted on May 4.
