12,009 new cases in Karnataka, 50 deaths

Bengaluru, Feb 5 (PTI) Karnataka on Saturday registered a further decline in daily coronavirus infections, as the state reported 12,009 new cases and 50 fatalities, taking the tally to 38,87,733 and toll to 39,300.

The state on Friday had reported 14,950 fresh infections.

There were 25,854 discharges today, taking the total number of recoveries to 37,39,197, a health bulletin said.

Of the new cases, 4,532 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 10,420 people being discharged and 15 virus-related deaths.

The total number of active cases across the state is now 1,09,203.

While the positivity rate for the day stood at 9.04 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.41 per cent.

Of the 50 deaths, 15 are from Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada (5), Mysuru (4), Kalaburagi (3), Ballari, Belagavi, Raichur, Shivamogga, TUmakuru, Udupi and Uttara Kannada (2), followed by others.

After Bengaluru Urban, Belagavi recorded the second highest number of cases with 1,028, Mysuru 763, Ballari 481, Chitradurga 436, Shivamogga 419 and Hassan 413.

Bengaluru Urban district now has a total of 17,53,636 cases, Mysuru 2,26,369 and Tumakuru 1,57,474.

According to the bulletin, Bengaluru Urban tops the list among discharges with 16,91,234, followed by Mysuru 2,18,968 and Tumakuru 1,51,072.

Cumulatively, a total of 6,25,74,309 samples have been tested, of which 1,32,796 were on Saturday alone.

Tamil Nadu reports 7,524 new cases, 37 more fatalities

Chennai, Feb 5 (PTI) Fresh Covid-19 infections in Tamil Nadu continued to decline as 7,524 cases in the last 24 hours were added to the caseload that stood at 34,04,762. There were 37 more fatalities and they took the death toll to 37,733, said the Health Department.

Recoveries eclipsed new cases with 23,938 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 32,28,151 leaving 1,38,878 active infections, a bulletin said.

Chennai and Coimbatore accounted for the most of new cases with 1,223 and 1,020 cases respectively. The rest were spread across other districts. Perambalur recorded the least with 17 cases getting reported.

Those who tested positive include five returnees from domestic and overseas destinations.

A total of 1,26,701 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and they took the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6,24,01,480, the bulletin said.

On Friday, there were 9,916 infections and they pushed the number to 33,97,238 till date.

Maharashtra COVID-19 cases drop to 11,394; 68 more die; 21,677 recover

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) Maharashtra on Saturday recorded 11,394 new coronavirus positive cases, a drop of 2,446 from the day before, and 68 fatalities, including 28 in the Pune circle, due to COVID-19 related complications, the state health department said.


On Friday, the daily number of cases had dropped by 1,412 from Thursday's count of 15,252 when 75 people succumbed to COVID-19 infection, the health department said.


With the latest additions, the tally of COVIID-19 cases in Maharashtra rose to 77,94,034. The latest death toll stands at 1,43,008, the department said in a report.


A total of 21,677 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours in Maharashtra, taking the tally of recoveries to 75,13,436, leaving the state with 1,33,655 active cases.


No fresh infection of the Omicron variant was reported in Maharashtra on Saturday, the department added.


Pune city reported 1,494 cases, the highest by any city in Maharashtra, followed by Nagpur (764), Pimpri-Chinchwad (778) and Mumbai (643), it said.


Of the eight administrative circles (each consisting of multiple districts), the Pune circle recorded 3,553 cases, followed by Nagpur (2,008), Mumbai (1,376), Nashik (1,887), Akola (898), Aurangabad (679), Latur (460) and Kolhapur (533).


Of the 68 fatalities, the Pune circle recorded (28), Mumbai (14), Kolhapur (nine), Nashik and Latur (seven each), Aurangabad (two) and Nagpur (one). No death is reported in the Akola circle in the past 24 hours, the department said.


Maharashtra's case recovery rate now stands at 96.4 per cent. The fatality rate is 1.83 per cent.


With 1,55,166 new tests, the total number of samples tested so far in Maharashtra went up to 7,54,10,043, as per the department.


Currently, 7,95,422 people are in home isolation and 2,447 people are in institutional quarantine in Maharashtra, it added.

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crosses 169 crore-mark

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday informed that India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 169 crore-mark (1,69,40,55,710). More than 40 lakh (40,57,946) Vaccine Doses have been administered.


More than 1.46 crore (1,46,98,311) Precaution Doses for the identified categories of beneficiaries (HCWs, FLWs and Over 60 years) for COVID vaccination have been administered so far. 

Gujarat sees 4,710 new COVID-19 cases, 34 deaths; 11,184 recover

Ahmedabad, Feb 5 (PTI) Gujarat on Saturday reported 4,710 new COVID-19 cases and 34 fatalities due to the viral infection, taking the tally to 11,96,344 and the toll to 10,648, the state health department said.

A total of 11,184 patients were discharged, which raised the overall count of recoveries in Gujarat to 11,34,683, leaving the state with 51,013 active cases, it said.

A total of 2.71 lakh people were vaccinated against coronavirus in Gujarat on Saturday, taking the total number of doses administered so far to 9.95 crore, it said.

Ahmedabad district reported the highest number of 1,484 new cases, followed by the Vadodara district with 1,012 cases, Gandhinagar 347, and Surat 339, among other districts. At seven, the Ahmedabad district reported the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in Gujarat, followed by Bhavnagar which saw five deaths. Vadodara and Surat each reported four deaths, Jamnagar three, and Gandhinagar one among others.

The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu reported four new cases and nine recoveries.

With this, the total number of cases in the UT rose to 11,368 and recoveries to 11,316, leaving the UT with 48 active cases. The number of COVID-19 deaths so far stands at four, officials said.

Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 11,96,344, new cases 4,710, death toll 10,648, discharged 11,34,683, active cases 51,013, people tested so far - figures not released.

West Bengal logs 1,345 new COVID-19 cases, 31 more deaths

Kolkata, Feb 5 (PTI) West Bengal on Saturday reported 1,345 new COVID-19 cases, 218 less than the previous day, which pushed the tally to 20,05,037, the health department said in its bulletin.

Thirty-one more deaths were recorded, raising the toll to 20,789, the bulletin stated.

North 24 Parganas logged 223 fresh cases, followed by Kolkata at 159.

Eight fatalities were recorded in Kolkata and five in Darjeeling district.

Four deaths were reported from North 24 Parganas, the bulletin said.

Bengal currently has 19,276 active cases, 937 less than Friday's count.

The fatality rate stood at 1.04 per cent and the positivity rate at 3.66 per cent.

Altogether 19,64,972 people have recovered from the disease -- 2,251 of them in the past 24 hours.

The discharge rate clocked 98 per cent.

As many as 2,34,61,069 samples have been tested in the state thus far, including 36,772 since Friday, the bulletin added.

Active COVID-19 cases in Pune down by 50 pc: Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Pune, Feb 5 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday said though the active coronavirus cases in Pune have come down by nearly 50 per cent, the administration will adopt a wait and watch policy.


Pawar, who is also the guardian minister of Pune, was speaking to reporters after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the district.


"As far as COVID-19 cases are concerned worldwide, there has been a decline in new infections, but there is a marginal increase in daily casualties. It has been observed at the district, state, national and global levels," the minister said.


Active cases have come down by 30 per cent in the country, while in state, they have declined by 42 per cent, he said.


"There were 90,000 active cases in Pune district till last week, but the number has now come down to 45,000. Though the cases are declining, we will adopt a wait and watch policy for the next few days," Pawar said.


Considering the trend, schools for Classes 1 to 8 can function full day as opposed to the half-day timings, he said.


Speaking about the vaccination drive in the district, Pawar said 86 per cent people have taken the second dose in the district.


"The vaccination for children in the 15-18 age group has been lagging in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Due to the shortage of vaccines, we could not inoculate children today. According to officials, we will be able to administer vaccines by Monday," the minister said.

Coronavirus LIVE: MP Govt. Lifts Restriction On Number Of Wedding Guests As Covid Cases Decline

Claiming that the COVID-19 situation in Madhya Pradesh has come under control, state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced the lifting of the restriction on the number of people attending wedding ceremonies from Saturday.


Due to a spike in coronavirus positive cases, the state government had capped the number of people attending weddings at 250 starting January 15.




“Wishing you all a very happy Basant Panchami. It is a matter of satisfaction that COVID-19 is under control in the state, hence the restrictions on the number of guests in marriages and other auspicious functions are being lifted from Basant Panchami,” Chouhan said in a tweet on Friday night, in which he also urged people to follow guidelines.


The state home department later issued an order stating that the restriction of 250 attendees in wedding ceremonies is being withdrawn with immediate effect.


The order, however, stressed that the use of face masks and hand sanitisers, besides adherence to the social distancing norm will be necessary for those attending such events.


The COVID-19 infection tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 9,95,049 on Friday after detection of 6,516 new cases, while the death toll increased to 10,648 as nine patients succumbed to the infection in the state, a health department official said.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday informed that India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage reached nearly 169 crore-mark (1,68,92,38,289). More than 42 lakh (42,95,142) Vaccine Doses have been administered.

 

More than 1.43 Crore (1,43,64,484) Precaution Doses for the identified categories of beneficiaries (HCWs, FLWs and Over 60 years) for COVID vaccination have been administered so far. 

 

Meanwhile, the government informed Parliament on Friday that any decision on expanding the list of eligible beneficiaries for the administration of the precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination of children below 15 years will be in accordance with the recommendations of the NTAGI on the basis of a review of the available scientific evidence.

 

"Any decision on extension of eligible beneficiaries for precaution dose and vaccination of children below 15 years of age is as per the recommendations of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) on the basis of review of available scientific evidence,"  Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

 

Delhi on Friday reported 2,272 fresh COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths, while the positivity rate dropped to 3.85 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.


With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,40,919 and the death toll climbed to 25,952, the latest health bulletin stated.


The number of COVID-19 tests conducted a day ago stood at 59,036, it said.


Delhi had on Thursday reported 2,668 cases with a positivity rate of 4.3 per cent, and 13 deaths.


The number of daily cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13.


The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the ongoing wave of the pandemic.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Friday recorded 13,840 fresh coronavirus cases, a drop of 1,412 from a day ago, and 81 fresh fatalities, while 27,891 more patients recovered from the infection.


With these fresh additions, the state's COVID-19 tally reached 77,82,640, while the death toll increased to 1,42,940.


No fresh infection of the Omicron variant was reported in the state.


Pune reported 2,126 cases, the highest by any city in the state, followed by Nagpur (1,175), Pimpri-Chinchwad (1,089) and Mumbai (846).


The bulletin said 27,891 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative total to 74,91,759.

The state now has 1,44,011 active cases.

The coronavirus recovery rate in the state stood at 96.26 per cent, while the fatality rate was 1.83 per cent.



Daily COVID-19 cases in Kerala further decreased on Friday with the state recording 38,684 fresh infections which raised the total caseload to 62,11,116.

The southern state had reported 42,677 COVID-19 cases on Thursday.

Notably, Kerala on Friday also reported 595 deaths which raised the total fatalities in Kerala to 57,296.


Of the deaths, 28 were reported in the last 24 hours, 197 were those which occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents, and 370 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the state government release said.

With 41,037 more people recovering from the virus since Thursday, the total recoveries reached 57,86,949.

As the number of recoveries was more than the new COVID-19 cases, the active cases in the state went down to 3,66,120, the release said.
