Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: Maharashtra's Panvel Corporation Stops Covid-19 Inoculation Drive Citing Vaccine Shortage
Coronavirus India HIGHLIGHTS: Maharashtra reported as many as 59,907 new cases of Coronavirus on Wednesday, taking overall tally to 31,73,261. 30,296 recoveries and 322 deaths were reported in the state in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan blamed Maharashtra government responsible for the current outbreak of Coronavirus across the country.
Lucknow district administration on Wednesday imposed a night curfew in city from 9 pm to 6 am. The curfew will come into effect on April 8 until 6 am on April 16. As per the announcement, curfew will be applicable only in Lucknow Municipal Corporation area, and not in rural Lucknow.
All government, non-government or privately run schools, colleges and educational institutes and coaching institutes will be closed in the district. Even parks in the area will remain open for people from 7 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm.
Amid reports and claims of Coronavirus vaccine shortage in Maharashtra, Panvel municipal corporation has said that has been forced to shut down inoculation drive from tomorrow (April 8). It is to be noted that Union Health Minister, earlier rejected claims of vaccine shortage of shortage of Coronavirus vaccine in Maharashtra and blamed state government for creating panic among people.
In the view of rising cases of Coronavirus, Odisha government on Wednesday suspended physical classes for class 9 and 11 till April 30 and for classes of class 10 and 12 till April 25.
Deplorable attempts by some state governments to distract attention from their failures and spread panic among the people," Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said during a press briefing on Tuesday. "Many other states also need to bring their healthcare systems up to the mark. Quality of testing needs to improve in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat. In Punjab, high case fatality rate needs to be improved by early identification of those needing hospitalisation," he said.
The interstate bus services between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have been suspended from April 7 till April 15 due to the surge in coronavirus infections. As per the order issued by the Additional Commissioner of the Madhya Pradesh Transport Department, all passenger buses of Madhya Pradesh entering the border of Chhattisgarh and all vehicles of Chhattisgarh entering the border of Madhya Pradesh have been suspended till April 15.
Jammu & Kashmir records highest single-day spike as 812 people tested positive for Covid-19 in past 24 hours taking total tally to 1,34,827. Total active cases in the valley have now surged past 5,000-mark. With 6 new fatilities on Wednesday, the death toll has risen to 2018.
Bogged by the Covid-19 second wave, a complete lockdown has been imposed in Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur from April 9 to April 19. As per the announcement made by administration, the lockdown restrictions will beging in the city from 6 pm onward on April 9.
In wake of increasing COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru, the Karnataka authorities have decided to impose Section 144 CrPC in city limits from today.
"Prohibit operation of amenities like Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Party Halls etc in apartment/residential complexes in limits of Bengaluru City," the order states.
Amid rising cases of Coronavirus in the state, Punjab Government has decided to impose night curfew from 9 PM - 5 AM across the entire State till April 30. It has also put a ban on political gatherings in the State.

News agency ANI quoted Dr. Suresh Kumar, MD, Lok Nayak Hospital (Delhi) saying, "The current wave of COVID19 is spreading faster than last year. Last week 20 patients were admitted to our hospital, today there are 170 patients. Demand for beds is also increasing."

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that 80% of cases in Punjab are due to the UK variant of COVID19. This has been confirmed by genome sequencing. "The increase in cases is event-driven like large weddings, local body elections, farmer protest, etc could have a role in it," minister added.

All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in an official notice said that routine walk-in OPD patient registrations, including speciality clinics in AIIMS Hospital and all centres, will temporarily be closed with effect from April 8.
Bumping up his deadline by two weeks, US President Joe Biden announced to make all adults in the U.S. eligible for coronavirus vaccines. "We are moving the date up from May 1 to April 19, nationwide. By no later than April 19, every adult aged 18 years and above will be eligible to be vaccinated. No more confusing rules. No more confusing restrictions," Biden said.
