Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Friday, April 16, 2021: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing Maharashtra government-owned Haffkine Institute to manufacture Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, on the basis of transfer of technology.The Maharashtra government made the announcement regarding the approval through their official Twitter handle."The Dept of Science and Technology, Government of India, has granted approval to Haffkine Institute to produce Bharat Biotech''s Covaxin vaccine on a transfer of technology basis," CMO Maharashtra tweeted.A weekend curfew will begin in Delhi from 10 pm today and continue till 6 am on Monday morning. According to the new directives, shopping malls, gyms, spas, auditoriums, assembly halls, entertainment parks and similar public places will be shut. Uttar Pradesh will see a night curfew in several cities including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Gorakhpur districts from 8 pm to 7 am. Rajasthan will also have a weekend curfew rom 6 pm today till Monday 5 am.

Maharashtra Reports Highest Single-Day Spike Of 63,729 Covid Cases

Maharashtra on Friday reported 63,729 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day count so far, taking the tally past the 37-lakh mark, while 398 more patients succumbed to the infection.

With 63,729 COVID new cases, the tally increased to 37,03,584, while 398 fatalities pushed the toll to 59,551.

DY CM Sisodia appointed nodal officer for COVID-19 management in Delhi

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was on Friday appointed the nodal officer for COVID-19 management in the national capital, according to an official order.

Sisodia will be responsible for inter-ministerial coordination till further orders, it said.

As the number of COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate continue to rise in the city, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced a curfew this weekend and the closure of malls, gymnasiums and auditoriums till April 30 as part of sweeping restrictions to break the chain of the infection.

Delhi recorded 16,699 COVID-19 cases and 112 fatalities on Thursday, according to the health department.

The positivity rate soared to 20.22 per cent, the highest till date in Delhi.

The city had registered 17,282 new infections on Wednesday, its highest single-day spike till date. The number of cases has been on an upward spiral in the last few days.

Delhi to go under weekend curfew starting today

 Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a weekend curfew starting today and the closure of malls, gymnasiums and auditoriums till April 30 as part of sweeping restrictions to break the chain of the COVID-19 infection in the city.

According to an official order, the weekend curfew will be effective from 10 pm tonight (Friday) to 5 am on April 19 (Monday), even as gymnasiums, auditoriums, malls, spas, entertainment parks and assembly halls will remain closed in the national capital till April 30.
