Anti-CAA Protests HIGHLIGHTS: The large-scale protests over Citizenship Amendment Act in and around Uttar Pradesh turned violent on Friday afternoon as protesters went on a rampage in six districts, pelting stones at the police, setting vehicles on fire and ransacking a number of police outposts.
The protests against the controversial CA Act led to major violence in Kanpur, Firozabad's Lalganj area, Bijnor's Naya Bazar area, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandshahar and Gorakhpur. Protesters pelted stones at the police, set motorbikes and cars on fire and ransacked police outposts in Hardoi and Farrukhabad.
Meanwhile crowd swelled despite a prohibitory order at various locations in the national capital including gates of Jama Masjid. There were, however, groups of protesters who appealed people to carry out their protest peacefully and not resort to any form of violence.
In the view of security of passengers, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shut the entry and exit gates of Chawri Bazar, Lal Quila and Jama Masjid. Trains will not be halting at these stations, DMRC informed.

Illiterate citizens, who may not have any documents, authorities may allow them to produce witnesses or local proofs supported by members of community. A well laid out procedure will be followed.
Indian citizens do not have to prove any ancestry by presenting documents like identity cards, birth certificates etc of parents/grand parents dating back to pre-1971 situation.
Citizenship of India may be proved by giving any document relating to date of birth or place of birth or both. Such a list is likely to include a lot of common documents to ensure that no Indian citizen is unduly harassed or put to inconvenience.

Delhi Police on Friday said 'outsiders' were involved in the violence near Delhi Gate during protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. 'We used mild force and water cannon, didn't lathicharge protesters or lob tear-gas shells. Many of our personnel have been injured. A red alert was sounded and the city put under a heavy security cover in view of the first Friday prayers since the police crackdown on the students of Aligarh Muslim University protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act earlier this week.
A senior official said that District Magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh has issued a red alert, and 10 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and four companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed as a precautionary measure.

Uttar Pradesh DGP, OP Singh on reports of a protester dying in Lucknow during protests against Citizenship Amendment Act told ANI that firing was not done from police. 'I do not know how that death occurred, I do not think it has anything to do with this agitation & police action,' he said.
According to police officials, protests were held at 102 locations across Uttar Pradesh. At least a dozen vehicles were set ablaze in Lucknow. As many as 112 people were detained in Lucknow.

BREAKING | Curfew has been imposed in at least 5 police station limits of Karnataka's Mangaluru Commissionerate limits (central sub division of Mangaluru) till Friday midnight. Section 144 is already in place in city.

Section 144 in 44 MP Districts | Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in as many as 44 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier in the day, the same orders were imposed in Karnataka's Bengaluru and Mangaluru.

BREAKING | Massive crowd gathered at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan on Thursday evening to join the nationwide protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Even Bollywood actor Farkhan Akhtar joined the protest against the controversial act. Police personnel in heavy numbers were deployed to ensure a peaceful protest.
BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra while speaking to ABP News claimed that all those protesters who are damaging public properties and attacking police personnel are Bangladeshi infiltrators. 'It can be understood by the kind of clothes they are wearing,' he said while speaking in a debate show.
According to sources close to ABP News, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will hold a review meeting later in the day over the violent protests against Citizenship Amendment Act which took place in different parts of the country.

New Delhi: Police detained scores of protestors including several political leaders in New Delhi when they tried to take out a march to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Despite the prohibitory orders of the police, a large number of people gathered near the Red Fort area to stage protests against the new law.
Swarajya Abhiyan chief Yogendra Yadav was among those detained from Red Fort, where section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed, officials said. Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader Sitaram yechury and CPI leader Brinda Karat have also been arrested from Mandi House Area.
"I have just been detained from Lal Qila. About a thousand protesters already detained. Thousands on the way. Am told we are being taken to Bawana," Yadav tweeted after his detention.
Police had already denied the permission for the protest near the Red Fort citing law and order issues, but the protestors said they will go ahead with the march. Section 144 prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in an area.
Protestors, which included activists and students, were dragged into buses in a bid to clear the area. Holding placards and shouting slogans, the protesters allowed themselves to be escorted to the buses.
"I know many of our mates are being detained, despite that many have gathered here. The citizenship of this country cannot be divided and this is our protest call today," Yadav said.
Protests against the new law are expected to intensify at the national capital today. Taking precautionary measures, the administration has imposed section 144 of CrpC near Red Fort area. Lahori Gate, Kashmere Gate and Kotwali police stations will come under this order, officials said.
Two protests are scheduled in the national capital, one by students and activists and the other by left parties. The two marches are to meet at Shaheen Park near ITO.

"Permission has not been granted for the protest march to be held by the communist party from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar over Citizenship Ammendment Act and NRC at 12 pm today," said Delhi Police.
Administration has also stopped operations at several metro stations.
Gates Of 15 Delhi Metro Stations Closed
The entry and exit gates of 15 metro stations were shut on Thursday for security purposes, ahead of Left parties’ protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the national capital.
