SC Directs IT Ministry To Ensure Internet Connectivity In Courts In Northeastern States For Online Hearings

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the IT Ministry to ensure internet connectivity to courts in northeastern states to ensure access to online hearings. The apex court has asked all high courts to put into place a SoP for accessing hybrid or video conferencing hearings in 4 weeks. No high court, after 2 weeks of order, shall deny access to video conference or hearing through hybrid mode to lawyers or litigants, SC said. On hybrid hearings in the high court, CJI Chandrachud said, "If you want to be judge then you have to be tech-friendly, there is no choice".
