The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) on Friday off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha.
"VL-SRSAM, a ship-borne weapon system is meant for neutralising various aerial threats at close ranges incl sea-skimming targets. Today’s launch of the system was conducted against a high-speed aerial target mimicking aircraft, which was successfully engaged," DRDO official said, quoted by news agency ANI.
"The flight path of the vehicle along with health parameters were monitored using a number of tracking instruments deployed by ITR, Chandipur. The test launch was monitored by senior officials from DRDO & Indian Navy," the official added.

Health Minister To Hold Review Meeting To Discuss Rising Covid Cases
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a high-level review meeting with a team of experts on Friday regarding the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country. In the last few weeks, there has been an increase in the cases of coronavirus infection in India.
The team of experts will include Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General, ICMR and Sujit Singh, Director, NCDC. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Biotechnology Department Secretary Rajesh S Gokhale, Pharmaceutical Department Secretary S Aparna and others will also attend the meeting.
In the review meeting held last week, states/UTs were asked to submit a 'large number' of samples for whole genome sequencing from districts and regions which have a rise in Covid-19 cases over a period of seven days. The direction was issued to investigate the possibility of any new emerging form or sub-form and to find out the reasons behind the infection.
