The Director-General of Meteorology at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Thursday that a fresh spell of heatwave is likely to commence in some parts of northwest India and central India.
"Due to the presence of western disturbance over Northwest India, the heatwave has abated in the past 2-3 days, while the day temperature has fallen and this condition is likely to continue for the next two days. However, a fresh heatwave spell is likely to commence in Rajasthan. Isolated heatwave conditions are expected to start in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha especially. For Rajasthan, it will be for today and tomorrow (May 5 and May 6), and on May 7, it (heatwave) will spread into some other parts of northwest India and central India," Mohapatra said.

With the heavy deployment of police across Nagpur, MNS president Raj Thackeray's call to play the Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers evoked tepid response in the city on Wednesday, a police official said.
The official said an application for playing the religious hymns on loudspeakers was received at the Kotwali police station, but it was rejected and MNS workers were served notices under section 149 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) related to preventing cognizable offences.
Similar applications were received at some other police stations in the city, too, but permission was not granted to maintain peace, the official said.
Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar held a meeting of MNS leaders and asked them to stay away from any agitation that would disturb peace in the city.
The administration in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone lifted the curfew on Wednesday, 24 days after it was imposed following an incident of communal violence that broke out during a religious procession. All prohibitory orders and restrictions issued on April 10 were removed with immediate effect on Wednesday evening following a peace committee meeting by the administration, said Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Milind Dhoke.
On Wednesday, the administration had relaxed the curfew for 11 hours - from 6 am to 5 pm. "From Thursday onwards, all religious places and shops will be open," the SDM said.

The curfew that was imposed in Rajasthan's Jodhpur following incidents of violence in the district has been extended till May 6, as per an order issued by the District Police Commissioner. "The curfew imposed in Jodhpur Commissionerate area on May 3 has been extended till May 6...Raikabagh Palace Bus Stand and Raikabagh Railway Station have been excluded from the curfew," read the order.
