The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made it mandatory for citizens and organisers of various pandals during the forthcoming Ganesh festival this year to immerse the Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols only in artificial lakes.


In a release issued on Monday, the BMC also made it compulsory to mention on the idols that they are made of the 'Plaster of Paris', while giving permission for such idols this year as "a special case".


It also announced that there will be a complete ban on the PoP idols in the BMC's jurisdiction during the Ganesh festival in 2023.


Last month, the civic body had announced a complete ban on the PoP idols in the city ahead of the Ganesh festival.


However, after a meeting on Monday with the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samiti, an umbrella body of various Ganesh mandals, the civic body retracted its earlier decision.

Breaking News LIVE: Singapore President, Parliament Speaker, And Minister Test Positive For COVID

Singapore President Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin, and Minister Edwin Tong have tested positive for COVID-19.


Madam Halimah, 67, said in a Facebook post on Monday, “Just tested positive for Covid-19 with mild flu-like symptoms. Thankfully, I have been vaccinated and boosted. I hope to recover soon and am sorry to have to miss the events this week.” Tan, 53, also, in a post on Monday, said that he had tested positive for COVID-19, reported The Straits Times.


Tan took an antigen rapid test before Monday’s parliamentary sitting and it came back positive, which means he will miss both days of the current Parliament sitting.


Writing in his post, Speaker Tan said, “Hope the symptoms would be mild. Continue to remain vigilant. Vaccination helps so do get the boosters when it’s your turn to do so.” It was also revealed in Monday’s Parliament sitting that Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Tong, 52, too was down with COVID-19.


Over the last 28 days, Singapore has reported 140,965 COVID infections.


To date, 1,473,180 infections and 1,419 COVID-linked deaths have been reported in the country since the outbreak of the infectious disease in 2019.

Prez Polls: Draupadi Murmu To Reach Patna To Seek Bihar Lawmakers' Support


NDA's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu will reach Patna on Tuesday to seek support from Bihar. She will land at Patna airport by special plane at 10 am and leave for her next destination by 1.30 PM, Jibesh Kumar Mishra, who is also a state minister, told reporters, as reported by news agency PTI.


Murmu will stay in Patna for about three and a half hours and will leave for Guwahati at 1.30 pm after having lunch. Murmu will meet leaders of all NDA constituents at Hotel Maurya and appeal to them to vote in her favour.


Nomination Process For August 6 Vice-Presidential Polls Begins


The process of filing nomination papers for the Vice-President's post to be held on August 6 will begin on Tuesday and will continue till July 19. The tenure of current Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is ending on August 10. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on July 20 and names can be withdrawn till July 22. The process of filing nomination papers begins when the Election Commission issues a notification asking voters to choose the next Vice-President.


The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has a clear lead in this election. Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are eligible to vote in this election, which includes nominated members.
