Cold Wave Conditions Abate In Delhi, Dense Fog Predicted
Tuesday saw the end of the cold wave in Delhi because of a new western disturbance that was affecting northwest India, reported PTI. However, a thick layer of fog limited visibility to just 50 meters, making it difficult for trains and roads to move.
Delhi's primary weather station, the Safdarjung observatory, recorded a minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius, up from 3.8 degrees Celsius on Monday. The temperature reached 18.7 degrees Celsius at its peak.
The minimum temperatures recorded by the weather stations on Lodhi Road and Palam were 6.4 degrees Celsius and 7.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
"Cold wave conditions have abated from the plains in northwest India. No cold wave is predicted in the region for the next four days," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement. "However, dense to very dense fog and cold day conditions will prevail over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and will gradually abate thereafter," it said.
On Thursday, the capital is also expected to see a light drizzle.
Govt Panel Likely To Decide On Covovax As A Heterologous Booster Dose For Adults
According to official sources, a decision regarding the market authorisation of SII's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax as a heterologous booster dose for adults who have received two doses of Covishield or Covaxin is likely to be made on Wednesday by an expert panel of the central drugs regulatory authority, reported PTI.
On January 11, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization's (CDSCO) Subject Expert Committee is scheduled to meet.
According to an official source, Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Serum Institute of India (SII), had recently requested the approval of Covovax as a heterologous booster dose for adults in light of the escalating pandemic situation in some countries.
Covovax had been approved by the DCGI for limited use in emergency situations on December 28, 2021, March 9, 2022, for adults aged 12 to 17, and June 28, 2022, for children aged 7 to 11, subject to certain conditions.
The SII manufactures Covovax by transferring Novavax's technology.
The European Medicines Agency has granted conditional marketing authorization for it.
