Indian Navy aims to become 'Atmanirbhar' by 2047: Admiral Hari Kumar

The Indian Navy has given assurances to the government that it will become 'Atmanirbhar' (self-reliant) by 2047, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar said on Saturday.


Addressing a press conference ahead of Navy Day, he also said the Navy keeps a strong vigil over the movements of various Chinese military and research vessels in the Indian Ocean Region.


He said the Indian Navy achieved a very high operational tempo in the last one year and there has been greater emphasis on the criticality of maritime security as India marches ahead.


"The government has given us clear guidelines on Atmanirbhar Bharat. We have given assurances that the Indian Navy will become Aatmanirbhar by 2047," the Navy Chief said.


Admiral Hari Kumar also said that operationally, the Navy had a very intense and engaging time in the last one year. Commissioning of aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was a landmark event for India, he said.


The Navy Chief said his force aims to have Made-in-India security solutions for the country.


Around 3,000 Agniveers have arrived in the Navy out of which 341 are women. For the first time, we are inducting women sailors, Admiral Kumar said. PTI

ED has searched 17 premises across Mumbai and Nagpur over smuggling of betel nuts of Indonesian origin

ED has searched 17 premises across Mumbai and Nagpur under PMLA, 2002, covering office and residential premises of various persons involved in the smuggling of betel nuts of Indonesian origin, smuggled mostly via India-Myanmar Border, ANI reported.


ED investigation has revealed that there is a well-organised syndicate of suppliers of Indonesian betel nut, commission agents, logistic providers, transporters, hawala operators and buyers who were smuggling Indonesian betel nut into India via India-Myanmar Border.


During ED searches, unaccounted betel nut of 289.57 MTs valued at roughly Rs 11.5 Crores has been seized under PMLA at Nagpur. ED has seized Rs 16.5 lakhs in cash and various incriminating documents and digital devices, ANI reported.

Delhi Government Schools To Stay Close On Saturday


Delhi government schools will remain closed on Saturday to prepare for the MCD polls, a circular from Delhi government's Directorate of Education (DoE) has said.


"All heads of government schools of Directorate of Education are hereby informed that December 3 (Saturday) is to be declared a holiday in schools on account of polling preparations of Delhi MCD elections 2022," the DoE circular issued on Friday said.


According to the circular, the DoE has informed the heads of schools that classes will be held on December 10 (second Saturday) to compensate for the holiday.


"The Heads of Schools are directed to disseminate this information among students, staff members, SMC members and parents," the DoE circular said.


The civic polls, spanning 250 wards, are due on December 4. The votes will be counted on December 7.


Top Cong Leaders To Meet To Evolve Strategy For Winter Session Of Parliament


Top Congress leaders will hold deliberations on Saturday on the party's strategy to corner the government during the Winter session of Parliament starting December 7.


The Congress is seeking to corner the government on issues of unemployment, high inflation, falling value of the Rupee, high petrol and diesel prices despite reduction in global crude oil rates, and high GST rates on essential commodities used by common people.


Sources said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, chief whip of the party in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh, and party's chief whip in Lok Sabha K Suresh will meet at the house of former party chief Sonia Gandhi Saturday evening to hammer out the party strategy.


Former Union ministers P Chidambaram and Manish Tewari are also likely to attend the meeting at Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence, as she is the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.
