Andhra Pradesh: The 6th Apex Committee Review Meeting (ACRM) on Coastal Defence, co-chaired by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, was held at Eastern Naval Command HQs on October 25. During the meeting, an update of the present status, way ahead along with the means to enhance the Coastal Defence construct for the State were discussed and deliberated. Delhi Court to Announce Sentence for Soumya Vishwanathan Murder Case
In a significant development, a Delhi court is expected to pronounce its verdict on the quantum of sentence for the five individuals accused in the brutal killing of television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan in 2008, newsa agency PTI reported. The judgment is scheduled to be delivered on Thursday, closing a painful chapter in this case.
Vishwanathan, a dedicated journalist working with a prominent English news channel, met her tragic end in the early hours of September 30 on Nelson Mandela Marg while returning home from work. The police had asserted that the motive behind her killing was a robbery.
On October 18, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Ravindra Kumar Pandey convicted Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Malik, and Ajay Kumar for the grave offenses of murder and common intention under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 'Red Light on Gaadi Off' Campaign Returns in Delhi from Thursday: Gopal Rai
In an effort to combat vehicular pollution in the national capital, Delhi's Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, announced the revival of the 'Red Light on Gaadi Off' campaign starting from October 26. Last year, this initiative was briefly put on hold, raising questions about its effectiveness by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.
Addressing a press conference, Minister Rai cited recent data analysis revealing a reduction in PM10 pollution levels while noting an increase in PM2.5 concentration attributed to factors such as biomass burning and vehicular emissions. In light of this analysis, the decision to reintroduce the 'Red Light on Gaadi Off' campaign was taken to reduce vehicular pollution in the city, he said, as per PTI.
