Bengaluru (IANS): Karnataka Transport department seized seven luxury cars including a Rolls-Royce, belonging to Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday night. However, later it was found that the Bengaluru-based realtor who had purchased the luxury car from Amitabh Bachchan had not got the registration of the vehicle transferred to his name.
The authorities have asked the present owner Babu to produce necessary documents and get the vehicle released.
The transport department carried out a drive near the upscale UB City area in Bengaluru for not paying taxes, not having proper documents and insurance.
Babu, the present owner of the car and proprietor of Umrah developers, stated that, "I have directly purchased this Rolls-Royce by paying Rs 6 crore to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan. I purchased the vehicle though it was old as it belonged to the actor in 2019. I have applied for the change of name for registration, but somehow it could not be done."
"We own two Rolls-Royce cars. Another is a new one. My children take Amitabh Bachchan's car during Sundays and holidays. My daughter was travelling in the car when it was seized. The officers have asked her to come to the RTO office located in Nelamangala in the outskirts of the city. She had requested them to let her get dropped to the house, they have obliged," he said.
"I spoke to the Transport Commissioner and asked him not to trouble us unnecessarily. He explained that there are many cars running with a single registration number in the city and they are keeping tabs on that. He had asked us to produce valid documents and get the car released. I will do so," Babu explained.
Transport department Additional Commissioner Narendra Holkar stated that the Rolls-Royce car was seized for not having proper documents. The owner produced a letter signed by Amitabh Bachchan stating that the vehicle is being sold to him.
Incidentally, the man at the wheel at the time of the car's seizure, was the driver whose name is Salman Khan.

JNU student Sharjeel Imam, arrested for allegedly making inflammatory speeches during the protests against CAA and NRC, told a Delhi court on Monday that he cannot be hammered with sedition as his speeches did not call for violence.
Imam has moved the court seeking bail in a case related to speeches made by him at two universities in 2019, where he allegedly threatened to cut off Assam and the rest of the Northeast from India. He has been arrested under UAPA and sedition.
During the hearing, advocate Tanveer Ahmed Mir, representing the accused, apprised Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat that no part of his speech called for any kind of violence to be initiated.

After the inauguration, Kejriwal said, "To fight pollution, we have installed India's first smog tower in Delhi today. It can help clean air within one-kilometer range. Border Security Force personnel opened fire at a flying object that was spotted along the International Border in Arnia sector of Jammu district on Monday, an official said.
"At about 0530 hours, a blinking red and yellow light in the sky was observed by our forward troops in Arnia sector near the IB", the official said.
Troops opened fire at the flying object following which it went towards Pakistan side, the official said.
The area is being searched with the help of police.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will on Monday inaugurate India’s first-ever smog tower at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in the Connaught Place area to help combat rising air pollution in the national capital, reports ANI.
The Delhi cabinet gave approval for the project in October 2020. Environment minister Gopal Rai said last week that the 20-metre-long structure, which has been set up to improve air quality in a radius of around one kilometre, will function at full capacity after the monsoon season. The tower, built at a cost of ₹20 crore tower, has been funded by the Delhi government.
Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 4,141 fresh Covid-19 infections and 145 deaths, taking the coronavirus tally in the state to 6,424,651 and the death toll to 135,962. Mumbai’s Covid tally reached 741,164, including 15,947 deaths with 294 infections and one fatality reported on Sunday. It was the first time since March 2020, when the pandemic first broke out last year, that the metropolis reported just a single Covid-19 fatality.
There were 167,881 Covid tests done in the state on Sunday, while the number of recoveries clocked 4,780. The total number of active patients in Maharashtra currently stands at 53,182, with Pune accounting for 12,069 of these followed by 6,980 in Thane and 6,974 at Satara. Pune has also seen 18,853 Covid-19 deaths, the most in the state followed by Mumbai- 15,947 and Thane-11,237.
Haryana's Home and Health Minister Anil Vij was on Sunday admitted to the PGIMER in Chandigarh as his oxygen levels dipped. The 68-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader earlier could not attend the state Assembly's monsoon session on health grounds.
He was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Sunday evening, hospital sources said. The sources said Vij is under the supervision of doctors led by a pulmonary and respiratory medicine specialist, as reported by PTI.
