Two persons, including a minor boy, were killed when a portion of a house crashed in Vikhroli as heavy rains clobbered Mumbai during the night, officials said in Mumbai on Monday, as reported by news agency IANS. According to the BMC Disaster Control, the tragedy struck a ground five-storied under-construction building around 11.15 p.m. on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses told the Mumbai Fire Brigade that some portion of the parapet (iron beam) and a slab of one of the floors had fallen. A part of the broken section was seen hanging precariously and it was removed by a fireman using rescue tools.
Eleven members of a family sustained serious burn injuries after a major fire broke out at a house in the Para area of Lucknow, late on Sunday night, news agency IANS reported, citing fire authorities. The condition of two of the family members is said to be critical.
Lucknow Chief Fire Officer Mangesh Kumar said that the control room was informed about a fire breaking out in a house located in the Devpur locality of Para. Locals reported a huge amount of smoke and flames engulfing the house.
"Immediately, two fire tenders from the Alambagh fire station, led by the station in-charge, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was observed that the fire engulfed the basement and ground floor of the house. Immediate action was taken as two hose pipes were deployed to encircle and extinguish the blaze," Kumar added, as quoted by IANS.
Four persons, including two women, have been detained in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a constable's six-year-old son in Meerut's Dhanpur village in Incholi police circle, news agency IANS reported, citing police. Gopal Yadav, a Uttar Pradesh Police Constable, is posted in Saharanpur.
His six-year-old son Puneet disappeared while playing from outside his house on Sunday morning and a few hours later, Gopal Yadav received a ransom letter with a demand for Rs 50 lakh. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rohit Singh Sajwan, said that based on the family's complaint, the police detained a local woman.
However, soon the family found the boy's body in a sugarcane field in the village.
The body of a 30-year-old man, Omal Anant Pandey, from Navi Mumbai was found hanging with the shuttering pipes of an under-construction building in the Ramghat area under Kotwali police station on Sunday, news agency IANS reported, citing police. Kotwali Inspector Rajiv Singh said that residents noticed the body and alerted the police.
The police reached the spot recovered a mobile phone from his pocket and contacted his family who confirmed his identity as Omal Anant Pandey of Navi Mumbai. The body has been kept in the mortuary and the arrival of his family is awaited.

11th Session Of Kerala Legislative Assembly To Commence From Today
The 11th session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly will commence on June 10 and conclude on July 25, news agency PTI reported citing Speaker A N Shamseer on Saturday.
As per the report, the Speaker said the 28-day long session was being convened to discuss in detail and pass the budget requests for the financial year 2024-25.
"The respective subject committees have completed the scrutiny of the financial requests in this year's budget which was presented in the House on February 5, 2024," Shamseer said in a statement issued by his office, PTI report said.
Of the 28 days of the session, 13 days -- from June 11 to July 8 -- have been reserved for discussing and passing the money requests, five days have been allocated for non-official business and eight for government business, he said.
Kerala Appropriation bills relating to the budget for 2024-25 and the first batch of supplementary demands for grants for the year will be passed in this session, the Speaker said.
On the first day of the session, the House proceedings will be briefly adjourned after the morning question and answer session for taking a group photo of the members of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly at the Members' Lounge, he further said.
"Subsequently, the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Kerala Municipality (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 will be introduced and sent for consideration of the respective subject committees," the Speaker said.
During the session, the fourth Lok Kerala Sabha will be held on June 13, 14 and 15 at Sankaranarayanan Thampi Members' Lounge inside the assembly complex, the report said.
SKM Chief PS Tamang To Take Oath As Sikkim CM On Monday
The swearing-in ceremony of PS Tamang as Sikkim chief minister was deferred by a day and the SKM supremo will now take oath for the second term on June 10, news agency PTI reported citing party leaders said on Friday.
The decision to defer the swearing-in ceremony to June 10 was taken during the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) legislature party meeting, held earlier in the day at the chief minister's official residence, Mintokgang, as Tamang will visit Delhi on Sunday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi as prime minister for the third time, they said, as per PTI.
Tamang is likely to leave for New Delhi on Saturday, an SKM leader said.
