Schools and colleges in Thane are scheduled to be closed tomorrow, 26th July in the wake of a heavy rainfall alert, as reported by Thane Municipal Corporation. IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Sindhudurg till 26th July, according to ANI.
Continuous rainfall caused extensive damage in Pune and surrounding regions. The NDRF has been deployed to evacuate residents from housing societies and low-lying areas.
"So far, we have had over 6,700 students who have come back from Bangladesh. We have received excellent cooperation from the Bangladeshi government. Our High Commission has arranged for their safe and secure travel to border crossing points or to the airport as the case maybe," said Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, PTI reported.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai. Upon this warning, a holiday has been declared for all schools and all colleges within the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area. In Warora, Chandrapur, children are forced to cross a bridge overflowing with floodwaters to get to school. Continuous rainfall in Chandrapur district over the past four days has caused rivers to overflow.
Due to heavy rain in Pune, several areas of the city have been inundated. Approximately 1,000 people are trapped in 25 societies on Sinhgad Road. Reports indicate that 40 two-wheelers and five cars have been swept away. Some areas in Baner are also flooded.

SC To Pronounce Verdict On Whether Royalty On Minerals Is Tax Under Mines & Minerals Act Today
The Supreme Court is set to pronounce its verdict on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. on whether the royalty payable on minerals is a tax under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
The apex court will also decide if only the Centre has the vested power to levy such taxes or the state governments also possess the authority to impose taxes on the land bearing minerals that comes in their territory.
The verdict will be pronounced by a nine-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
The verdict was reserved on March 14 after hearing a batch of 86 appeals filed by different state governments, mining companies and public sector undertakings for eight days.
The bench also comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy, Abhay S Oka, BV Nagarathna, JB Pardiwala, Manoj Misra, Ujjal Bhuyan, Satish Chandra Sharma and Augustine George Masih, according to the notice issued by the Supreme Court on its website.
In the previous hearing, Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, had contended that the government had overriding powers with regard to taxing mines and minerals.
"The MMDRA wholly occupies the field and provides for a complete code covering every aspect of regulation and development of mines and minerals, including any Government exaction/ imposition in relation to mines and minerals thereby necessarily limiting state legislature’s competence to impose any other levy beyond what is stipulated under MMDRA and the rules framed thereunder," Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, also representing the Centre, had submitted.

Netanyahu is in Washington and will address a joint session of the US Congress, becoming the only foreign leader to do so for a fourth time.
"Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday (July 25)," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, a social media platform.
This would be Trump's first meeting with a foreign head of state after becoming the Republican presidential nominee, earlier this month, on July 18.
