Imran Khan’s party to launch Protest movement against Feb 8 ‘poll rigging’

The Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is set to kick off a protest movement against purported rigging in the February 8 general elections beginning Saturday, according to a senior party official. Omar Ayub Khan, the opposition leader in the National Assembly, revealed that PTI, in collaboration with a "grand opposition alliance," will also demand the "restoration of the Constitution and democracy" in Pakistan, as reported by Geo News.

The protest campaign, spearheaded by Ayub Khan, who was the joint candidate defeated by Imran Khan's rival Shehbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in last month's prime ministerial election, will commence from Balochistan and subsequently expand nationwide. Earlier announcements by PTI had indicated plans to launch a countrywide movement against alleged election rigging after Eid-ul-Fitr, starting from Balochistan.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser, following a meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, stated that the inaugural rally would take place in Balochistan's Pishin district. The party, founded by Imran Khan, alleges that the current government manipulated election results in Form 47s to favour PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
