Chaos At Bangladesh’s Top Engineering University As Court Lifts Ban On Student Politics

Bangladesh’s top court has stayed a ban on campus politics at BUET, where it has emerged as a divisive issue. The ban, it has been alleged, gave extremist groups a free run on campus.

One of Bangladesh’s most prominent educational institutions finds itself in chaos over a years-long conflict centred on student politics. On 1 April, the country’s top court stayed a five-year-old ban on student politics on the campus of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), leading several students to boycott classes.
