What Is Collegium System? How The Chief Justice Of India And Other Judges Are Appointed

The Indian Constitution under Article 124 and 217 provides for a procedure of appointment of judges of the Supreme Court and the high courts.

Recently, the outgoing Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud recommended the appointment of Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the 51st CJI. As the President of India gave her assent to the recommendation, Justice Khanna is set to take the oath on November 11. The appointment of judges in India is done via the Collegium system.  The Indian Constitution under Article 124 and 217 provides for a procedure of appointment of judges of the Supreme Court and the high courts. Article 124 says
