Hindu Marriages Invalid Without Ceremonies? Marriage Certificate Not Enough? — What Supreme Court Said

The Supreme Court in a recent judgment said that for a Hindu marriage to be held "valid" under the law, ceremony and a proof of that ceremony is mandatory, and a mere registration certificate is not enough.

The Supreme Court in a recent judgment said that for a Hindu marriage to be held "valid" under the law, ceremony and a proof of that ceremony is mandatory, and a mere registration certificate is not enough. The court ruled that unless the parties have undergone such ceremony, there would be no Hindu marriage according to the Section 7 of the Hindu Marriage Act. In the same breath, the top court depreciated the practice of young men and women seeking to acquire the status of being a husband
