Explained: What Is The Controversy Around Nepal’s New Map On Its Rs 100 Banknotes

Earlier this month, Nepal announced it will be using its controversial map – which shows disputed areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as part of Nepal – on its Rs 100 currency notes.  

India-Nepal: On May 3, Nepal, under Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, took the decision to use a controversial political map – which it released in 2020, claiming territories disputed with India as its own – on Rs 100 denomination banknotes. The decision came at a time when India is holding its Lok Sabha elections.
