Explained: What Is The Controversy Around Nepal’s New Map On Its Rs 100 Banknotes

Earlier this month, Nepal announced it will be using its controversial map – which shows disputed areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as part of Nepal – on its Rs 100 currency notes.  

India-Nepal: On May 3, Nepal, under Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, took the decision to use a controversial political map – which it released in 2020, claiming territories disputed with India as its own – on Rs 100 denomination banknotes. The decision came at a time when India is holding its Lok Sabha elections. The Nepal government also announced that their cabinet has okayed the new design, and replaced the old notes with the newly minted ones after
