Actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik left for his heavenly abode during the early hours of Thursday, March 9, in Gurgaon after suffering a heart attack. He was 66 years old.
The multi-hyphenate artiste walked the parallel, experimental road in his acting but mostly stuck to mainstream populist cinema in his productions and direction with his range of films including “Tere Naam” and “Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai”.
Kaushik earned his comic actor stripes early in his film career with the memorable role of Calendar the cook in the 1988 film “Mr India”. He was so loved in that role that there was a time he was only offered comic roles.
The names were many and catchy – besides Calendar was Pappu Pager from "Deewana Mastana", Airport in "Swarg", Panipuri Sharma in "Andaz", Harpal 'Happy' Singh in "Pardesi Babu", Sharafat Ali in "Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan", and German in "Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain".

Satish Kaushik was cremated at 8:15 pm on Thursday in Mumbai. Family and close friends attend the late actor's last rites. New agency ANI tweeted, "The last rites of actor Satish Kaushik were conducted in Mumbai today in the presence of his family and friends." As per reports, Satish's best friend Anupam Kher was inconsolable.
The mortal remains of Satish Kaushik are at his Versova house in Mumbai. They will soon be moved for the final funeral but until then Bollywood celebs continue to pay their respects to the late actor and his family.

Satish Kaushik once spoke with the Lucknow Times about the death of his son, Shanu Kaushik, and how he was unable to grieve. The star of Hindi cinema said that he was at the pinnacle of his career when the tragedy struck, but that he was unable to deal with it at the time due to the demands of his job. The actor explained how he had become more relaxed after cutting down on his partying.
Satish Kaushik said, “I avoid going to parties now, I have become calmer. I even control my diet and drinking because of her. I had lost my son 20 years back, when I was at the peak of my career. I couldn’t really get time to even feel that loss. I used to be continuously busy with work and this would make me feel guilty: I didn’t even have the time to mourn my son’s death.”

After the sudden demise of Satish Kaushik, Anil Kapoor, his best friend and actor penned a heartfelt note on Instagram besides also sharing a set of pictures of the 'three musketeers' ( Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, Anil Kapoor).

A source close to Satish Kaushik's family has shared that Satish Kaushik's mortal remains will reach Mumbai's Kalina Airport 35 minutes late as the flight has been delayed. Satish suffered a heart attack in New Delhi when he suffered a heart attack while travelling in a car.
Anupam Kher, a close friend of Satish Kaushik, recalled the actor's behaviour as he talked to the reporters.
Leaving everyone grieving over the loss of a gem of the entertainment industry, Satish Kaushik left for his heavenly abode on Thursday, March 9. An emotional Anupam Kher, who also broke the news of Satish Kaushik's death on social media, talked about how unbelievable it is for him that his dear friend is no more.
Talking to ABP Live, the actor said, "To even talk about it (Satish Kaushik's dear) is a weird feeling. Last night, around 2.00 am, my house help answered a call, I was asleep, and he told me that Satish ji chale gaye hai, I thought he has come home, so I asked him to make him sit as I come to see him, I was wondering why he's come home at 2 in the night, but my house help said ‘Satish ji is gone’. The day before yesterday he had visited my house for dinner, on my birthday. Bads mushkil hai aisa dost milna, aisa insaan milna. We are all shocked, I don't know how many years it will take us to come to terms with the fact that he is not among us anymore. "
Pankaj Tripathi, who worked in Satish Kaushik's directorial venture 'Kaagaz', penned an emotional note on his demise. The actor tweeted, "बेहद दुखी हूँ ,पिछले दिनों मिलने की बात कर रहे थे हम दोनों , अब मिलना नहीं होगा सतीश कौशिक सर । आपके सपने का सहभागी रहा हूँ । अब स्मृतियों में रहेंगे ।आपका अटूट भरोसा और स्नेह सदैव मेरे साथ रहेगा ।ईश्वर परिवार को शक्ति दें । प्रणाम सर (I am very sad, both of us were talking about meeting last days, now we will not meet Satish Kaushik sir. In order to conduct a postmortem, the actor's body was moved from Fortis in New Delhi to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
As per news agency ANI, post-mortem of actor Satish Kaushik is over. The initial report suggests no injury mark was found over the body. Reports stated cardiac arrest as the cause of death of the actor.
Actors Raj Babbar and Anup Soni arrived at Satish Kaushik's residence in Mumbai for meeting his family. The mortal remains of the actor-filmmaker are being flown to Mumbai from Delhi and the last rites will take place at 5pm.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also condoled the shocking demise of Satish Kaushik. He tweeted, "The untimely passing of Satish Kaushik ji is very sad..Satish ji will always be alive in our hearts through your art..."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the sudden demise of veteran actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik. In his tweet, PM Modi wrote, "Pained by the untimely demise of noted film personality Shri Satish Kaushik Ji. He was a creative genius who won hearts thanks to his wonderful acting and direction. His works will continue to entertain audiences. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
The South West Police is probing the death of Satish Kaushik. The actor-filmmaker fell ill around 11 pm after playing Holi at Bijwasan's farm house.
The police do not have any information at present about all that happened during the day. On complaining of uneasiness, Satish Kaushik was taken to Fortis Hospital in Gurugram by the people with whom he was throughout the day.
Satish Kaushik breathed his last on his way to the hospital, before entering Fortis.
The police was informed by the hospital authorities and because he had gone from Delhi, the Delhi Police decided that his postmortem would be done by the Medical Board at Deen Dayal Hospital, Harinagar, Delhi.
In the initial investigation, however, police sources say nothing suspicious has been found.
The police officials have said that the time of death, what was eaten and drank, cause of death will be clear only after postmortem, so nothing can be said at this stage.
With the investigation underway, the police is in touch with people who accompanied Satish Kaushik to the hospital and were with him at the time of his demise.
In Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency', Satish Kaushik will make his final appearance on the big screen. He portrayed the late defence minister Jagjivan Ram in the historical drama, which was set during Indira Gandhi's time as prime minister in 1975–76 and focused on the turbulent Emergency era of India.
Akshay Kumar, who shared screen space with Satish Kaushik in 'Mr And Mrs Khiladi', paid tribute to him by sharing a picture of himself and the late actor from their film.
He wrote, "Chanda Mama is gone. Deeply saddened to hear about Satish Kaushik ji’s demise. Will remember him for the spontaneous laughter he brought to the sets of Mr & Mrs Khiladi. Am sure he’s already making everyone smile in heaven. Om Shanti"

Javed Akhtar tweeted, "Satish a man full of warmth love and humour was like a brother to me since almost forty years. He was twelve years younger than me. Satish ji, it was not your turn."
Satish Kaushik remarked on the failure of his Boney Kapoor-backed directorial efforts, including ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ (1993) and ‘Prem’ (1995). Not only did he not express any regret, but he also claimed that Boney and Anil "didn't have any agenda against" him, despite the fact that they were blamed for the postponement of ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ and ‘Prem's works.
In an interview with Filmfare in 2014, Satish said, “I learnt that relations are worth more than success or money. I didn’t direct for a long time. But I didn’t rebel because I knew Boney and Anil didn’t have any agenda against me per se."

Neena Gupta, in her autobiography, ‘Sach Kaun Toh’, wrote about her friendship with Satish Kaushik. She revealed that he offered to marry her when she was expecting her daughter Masaba Gupta out of wedlock.
“Don’t worry, if the child is born with dark skin, you can just say it’s mine and we’ll get married. Nobody will suspect a thing,” Kaushik told Gupta. Neena wrote in her book that Satish’s gesture touched her, but she declined his offer. The duo has worked in movies like ‘Mandi’, ‘Utsav’ and ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’.

According to sources, the mortal remains of Satish Kaushik were shifted to from Fortis Hospital in Gurgaon to Deen Dayal Updhyay Hospital in Delhi for post mortem.
According to Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik was at a friend's home in Delhi when he complained of uneasiness.
"He felt uneasy and he told driver to take him to the hospital and on the way he suffered a heart attack around 1 am," Kher. (PTI)
