Biren Singh polled 24814 votes, while his nearest rival Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh polled 6543 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Congress Party nominated Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh to run against Manipur's Chief Minister in the 2022 assembly elections in Manipur.

The Manipur Assembly elections 2022 was conducted in two phases for 60 seats on February 28 and March 5. A total of 265 candidates were in the fray, out of which, 173 candidates were in Phase 1 elections, and 92 in Phase 2 elections.
According to the Election Commission of India, the first phase of polling in the state saw a voter turnout of 78.03 per cent, while the second phase polling across 22 constituencies ended marginally higher at 78.49 per cent.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to win 32 to 38 seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly, with the Congress trailing far behind with 12 to 16 seats, according to exit polls released on Monday.
According to the ABP-C-Voter Exit Poll, the BJP is expected to win 23 to 27 seats, while the Congress is expected to win 12 to 16 seats. The incumbent BJP's two estranged allies, the National People's Party (NPP) and the Naga People's Front (NPF), are expected to win 10 to 14 and 3 to 7 seats, respectively. According to the poll, others might gain 2 to 6 seats.
Meanwhile, repolling took place on March 8 in seven booths in Ukhrul, Senapati and Thoubal districts of Manipur where assembly elections were just held.
Voting at these polling stations in Ukhrul, Senapati and Thoubal were ruled "invalid" after unrest on March 5 during the state's second and final phase of assembly elections, officials claimed.
The Manipur Election Commission reported that 12 electronic voting machines were broken during the state's second phase of voting on March 5.
The repoll was held at Ukhrul, Kalhang, Pen, Ngamju, Yangkhullen, and Mao Marafii from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
