Lok Sabha Elections 2024: "They (BJP) talk about winning more than 400 seats, which implies that they aim to amend the Constitution. Those who cherish the Constitution and democracy should refrain from voting for the BJP," says Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari.
The Election Commission of India today convened a crucial meeting with all States/UTs to review and assess the law and order situation, prevention of illicit activities, seizures and strict vigil across inter-state and international borders in the ongoing General Elections to Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies 2024 for a free, fair, peaceful and inducement free elections.
The purpose of the combined review was to bring all concerned stakeholders together on the same platform for a seamless coordination and cooperation amongst officials of the neighbouring states/UTs along with central agencies guarding the borders. The Commission, in detail, reviewed critical issues pertaining to each State/UT.

The letter reads, "Despite clear directives from the Election Commission regarding the prohibition of involving children in election-relate activities, BJP and Nitin Gadkari have been using school children for the purpose of their personal campaign."
Panna, Madhya Pradesh Union minister & BJP leader Smriti Irani says, "Congress has accepted its defeat even before voting in this Lok Sabha seat. This is the reason Congress is not contesting from this seat." She campaigned for BJP leader VD Sharma, who is contesting from Khajuraho, in Panna today.
Kerala: Congress party's sitting MP and candidate Shashi Tharoor files nomination from Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala. BJP has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram.
West Bengal BJP Chief Sukant Majumdar has filed his nominations to contest from the Balurghat seat as a candidate from the saffron party. Majumdar, accompanied by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, is all set to hold a roadshow in the constituency today.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said, "...If she (PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti) has announced to field candidates on all 5 seats, it is her choice. We have fielded candidates on 3 seats in Kashmir based on her formula...If she is fielding her own candidates then perhaps she does not want any kind of alliance even for the assembly elections. The Congress on Tuesday unveiled another list of 17 candidates, nominating Y S Sharmila Reddy, the state unit chief, to contest the Kadapa seat in Andhra Pradesh. Taking to X, Congress wrote: "11th list of names of Congress candidates for Lok Sabha elections, 2024 in the meeting of 'Central Election Committee' held under the chairmanship of Congress President Kharge"
The recent list features eight candidates from Odisha, five from Andhra Pradesh, three from Bihar, and one from West Bengal.
The Congress party, as part of the seat-sharing agreement with the grand alliance in Bihar, has declared candidates for three out of the nine allocated seats. Mohammed Jawed, the incumbent Congress MP, will contest from the Kishanganj Lok Sabha constituency. Meanwhile, veteran leader Tariq Anwar has been nominated as the candidate for the Katihar seat.
Meanwhile, twenty-seven candidates, including Rajasthan BJP chief C P Joshi, filed their nomination papers for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state on Tuesday, a senior official said. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Praveen Gupta said that so far 54 candidates have submitted 89 nominations for the second phase of the elections which will be held on April 26.
He said not a single nomination has been received for the Bagidora assembly bypoll which will also be held on April 26. The last date for filing nomination papers for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls is April 4.
Gupta said four candidates, including BJP's Joshi, have filed their nomination papers from Chittorgarh Lok Sabha constituency; three each from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Jodhpur, Jalore and Kota; two each from Ajmer and Barmer; and one each from Udaipur, Rajsamand, Bhilwara and Jhalawar-Baran.
The Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan will be held in two phases on April 19 and April 26. In the first phase, voting will be held in 12 constituencies -- Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur Rural, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa and Nagaur.
