Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4 2024 HIGHLIGHTS: Please follow the space for all the updates pertaining to the fourth phase of polling in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
A voter turnout of 61.54 per cent was registered in the election to 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana on Monday, which went off peacefully.
The polling was held from 7 AM to 6 PM, except Left Wing Extremism-affected constituencies where the process concluded by 4 PM.
The polling process in Telangana was peaceful, DGP Ravi Gupta said in a release.
Notably, polling in Naxal-affected areas concluded without any incident by 4 pm, he said.
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj said the response from voters was good.
"We have got very good response right from morning. Weather was also supportive. So we had good turnout. There was no problem on law order side also," Vikas Raj told reporters. (PTI Input)
The Delhi High Court has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to file an affidavit on the videography conducted and CCTV footage maintained with regard to EVMs and the guidelines being followed for preserving the video footage of the electoral process.
Justice Sachin Datta issued notice to the commission on the petition filed by the Rampur Lok Sabha contestant, lawyer Mehmood Pracha, who said CCTV footage have a crucial role to play in the event of a challenge to an election.
"The respondent/ECI is directed to file an affidavit as regards the videography/ CCTV coverage which is maintained with regard to the EVMs after the conduct of First Level Check (FLC) till the stage referred to in para 6.1.1(e) [Opening the Strong Room at the time of commissioning of EVMs] of the Manual on Electronic Voting Machine," said the court in an order dated May 10.
"The affidavit shall also indicate the applicable norms/guidelines laid down/ being followed for the preservation of the video/CCTV footage at various stages of the electoral process," added the court. (PTI Input)
The Election Commission of India (ECI) stated Srinagar recorded a 36.58% turnout today, highest since 1996.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday claimed he will be back from the Tihar jail on June 5 if the INDIA bloc comes to power after the election results are announced even as he alleged that efforts were made to break and humiliate him during his prison stay.
Arrested in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, Kejriwal has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. He will have to surrender and go back to jail on June 2.
June 1 is the last day of the seven-phase elections and the votes will be counted on June 4.
Addressing his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors, Kejriwal said he was under CCTV surveillance and 13 officers were monitoring the feed.

So, accordingly, Mr Modi has to step down. It is quite possible. It is up to the BJP people...There is nothing like a bloc. Now, regional parties will be the power in India."

BJP MLA from Durgapur Paschim seat Lakshman Chandra Ghorui has alleged that his party's polling agent was intimidated by the TMC workers. "I came here after our polling agent was stopped from entering the booth," he told ABP Ananda.
Meanwhile, the TMC refuted it as "baseless" claiming that Ghorui is influencing voters.

EC said 1.92 lakh polling stations have been set up and over 19 lakh polling officials deployed. Over 17.7 crore eligible voters, including 8.97 crore males and 8.73 crore females, are expected to exercise their franchise. The poll panel also said 364 observers, including 126 General Observers, 70 Police Observers, and 168 Expenditure Observers, have reached their allotted constituencies. Additionally, some Special Observers have also been deployed in some states.
A total of 4,661 Flying Squads, 4,438 Static Surveillance Teams, 1,710 Video Surveillance Teams, and 934 Video Viewing Teams are on round-the-clock duty "to deal with any form of inducement of voters strictly and swiftly", the Election Commission said in a statement. It also said as many as 122 air sorties have been done in Andhra, Jharkhand, and Odisha to ferry security personnel and polling officials. The authorities have also set up 1,016 inter-state and 121 international border check posts to keep strict vigil on illicit flow of liquor, cash, drugs, or freebies. Sea and air routes are also under strict surveillance.
As many as 1,717 candidates from 10 States and UTs are in the fray in phase 4 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On an average, 18 candidates are contesting from each constituency in this phase
