Dhupguri Bypoll Result 2023 Highlights: The bypoll saw a three-way fight between TMC, BJP, and Congress-backed CPI(M).
The Trinamool Congress wrested the Dhupguri Assembly seat from the BJP, with its candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy winning it by a margin of over 4,000 seats.
Round 6 of counting has ended and TMC has further extended its lead over BJP in Dhupguri bypoll and is ahead by over 3,500 votes. TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, a college professor, is leading with 62,602 votes. BJP's Tapasi Roy has received 58,829 votes, as per latest EC numbers. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 8229 votes.
After Round 5 of counting, TMC has extended its lead over BJP in Dhupguri bypoll and is ahead by nearly 1,000 votes. TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, a college professor, is leading with 50,441 votes. BJP's Tapasi Roy has received 49,479 votes, as per latest EC numbers. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 5590 votes.
After Round 4 of counting, TMC has maintained its lead over BJP in Dhupguri bypoll. TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, a college professor, is leading with 39,160 votes. BJP's Tapasi Roy is close behind and has received 38,806 votes, as per latest EC numbers. The difference between TMC and BJP is just 354 votes. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 4076 votes.
Well, the tables have turned now and after Round 3 of counting, TMC has taken a slender lead over BJP in Dhupguri. The ruling TMC, which has fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, is leading with 28,886 votes. BJP's Tapasi Roy is close behind and has received 28,785 votes, as per latest EC numbers. The difference between TMC and BJP is just 101 votes. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 3153 votes.

BJP's Tapasi Roy is leading the Dhupguri bypoll and has received over 18,165 votes, as per latest EC numbers. The ruling TMC, which has fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, is close behind with 17,147 votes. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 2079 votes.
BJP's Tapasi Roy is leading the Dhupguri bypoll and has received nearly 9,000 votes, as per latest EC numbers. The ruling TMC, which ahs fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, is close behind with 7328 votes. Ishwar Chandra Roy of CPI(M) is at the third spot with 1310 votes.
An SC-reserved seat, Dhupguri has nearly 50 per cent Rajbanshi and 15 per cent minority population. The Rajbangshi community will play a vital role in deciding the fate of candidates. In the 2021 Bengal Assembly polls, the BJP got 45.65 per cent votes and TMC got 43.75 per cent. BJP candidate Bishnupada Roy had won the election by 4,355 votes.
BJP's Tapasi Roy, the widow of a CRPF jawan killed in a terrorist attack in J&K in 2021, is leading from Dhupguri in West Bengal in initial trends as per Election Commission, ANI reported. TMC is at the second spot followed by CPI(M)-Congress candidate.
The bypolls saw a three-cornered contest between the ruling TMC, BJP and the CPI(M)-Congress combine. The ruling TMC has fielded college professor Nirmal Chandra Roy, while the BJP has nominated Tapasi Roy, the widow of a CRPF jawan killed in a terrorist attack in J&K in 2021. The CPI(M) has fielded folk singer Ishwar Chandra Roy and Congress has backed him.
The polling for the Dhupguri seat by-election was held on September 5. A voter turnout of 78 per cent was recorded. The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of BJP MLA Bishnu Pada Ray on July 25.
According to an election official, there is a three-tier security set up at the University where the counting in ongoing.
The three-way fight between BJP, TMC, AND CPI(M) in Bengal's Dhupguri in the Jalpaiguri district will throw up the results today as counting begins at the North Bengal University second campus.

The Trinamool Congress wrested the Dhupguri Assembly seat from the BJP, with its candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy winning it by a margin of over 4,500 seats. By-election to the Dhupguri seat in Jalpaiguri district was held following the death of sitting BJP MLA Bishu Pada Ray earlier this year.
CPI (M)'s Ishwar Chandra Roy contesting as the candidate of the Congress-Left alliance, while the ruling Trinamool Congress has fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, a professor at the Dhupguri Girls College.
The BJP has nominated Tapasi Roy, the widow of CRPF jawan Jagannath Roy who was martyred in a terror attack at Lawaypora in J&K on March 25, 2021.
In Dhupguri constituency, personnel of the central armed police forces and state police are guarding the strong room on the second campus of North Bengal University in Jalpaiguri, an official said.
The polling for the Dhupguri by-election was held on September 5, amid tight security arrangements. Around 76 per cent of 2.6 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in the byelection.
The bypoll to the seat was necessitated by the death of its sitting BJP MLA, Bishu Pada Ray, earlier this year. Roy had come to Kolkata to participate in the monsoon session of the Assembly. He was admitted to a city hospital after he complained of the chest pain. He died soon after being admitted to the hospital.
He was elected in 2021 after defeating the Trinamool Congress MLA Mitali Roy.
Dhupguri, a scheduled caste-reserved seat, has nearly 50 per cent Rajbanshi people and 15 per cent minority population. The BJP had snatched the constituency from the TMC in the 2021 assembly polls.
Polling for bypolls in six other assembly constituencies in five other states was held on the same date and counting will also be held on September 8.
The seven assembly constituencies are Dumri in Jharkhand, Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura, Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Puthuppally in Kerala and Dhupguri in West Bengal.
