In Chhattisgarh, the election was held in two phases. The phase 1 voting was held on November 7, and the phase 2 voting took place on November 17. Chhattisgarh, which has 90 assembly seats, has been a hotbed of political activity, with its political landscape dominated by a diverse range of ideologies and parties.

In the first phase, voting was held on 20 seats in 12 districts under Bastar division the most Naxal-infested region in the state. The first phase recorded a voter turnout of 78 per cent.

As far as the second phase of voting is concerned, the remaining 70 constituencies underwent polling that saw a voter turnout of 68.15 per cent and included key candidates in the fray—Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo, along with several other leaders from Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The contest in Chhattisgarh is directly between Congress which is looking to retain its power in the state and the Bharatiya Janata Party which left no stone unturned in its attempt to unseat the grand old party.

ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll

According to the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll, the grand old party is facing opposition from 48.5% of the voters, who are 'angry and want to change the government'. However, 44.8% of voters say they are "not angry and do not want to change the government". The projections for vote share and seats have also given an edge to Baghel. The projected vote share for Congress is 44.8% and the party is likely to win 45 to 51 seats. The saffron party closely trailed the Congress with a projected vote share of 42.7% expecting to win 36 to 42 seats, as per the survey.

Both Phases Of Voting Marred With Violence

Both phases of polling in the state were marred with violence. During the first phase, gunfight between security forces and Maoists was reported from at least three places, injuring two security forces personnel. During the second phase, a soldier of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police was killed in an IED blast while escorting polling officials in the Gariaband region.
