Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, general secretary of the Congress, slammed the Union government on Monday for raising the prices of onions and other vital goods, saying the administration only tries to control inflation when elections are approaching, PTI reported. She was speaking at a rally in Madhya Pradesh's Indore-5 Assembly constituency, where elections will be place on November 17 and ballots will be tallied on December 3.
"Onion prices have increased before Diwali and housewives are upset over this. The government makes efforts to control inflation only when elections are held. The price of an LPG cylinder rose to Rs 1,400 and two months before the elections, the government reduced its price to Rs 400," she said.
More than 600 voting stations in dangerous regions of Naxal-hit Bastar division, which will vote in the first round of Chhattisgarh assembly elections on Tuesday, will be protected by three layers of security, according to police, news agency PTI reported. Around 60,000 security troops, 40,000 from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and 20,000 from the state police, have been deployed to ensure the peaceful conduct of elections in the Bastar division, which has 12 assembly seats, they added. Members of the elite anti-Naxal unit CoBRA, as well as women commandos, will be part of the security apparatus, according to the police.
Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) have geared up campaigning the state of Madhya Pradesh as it is scheduled to vote after ten days, on Nov 17. Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed a rally in the Kushi town of Dhar district and questioned the CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government for "lack of employment" in the state. She said the big businessmen don't create anything and have ended up small and medium businesses effectively ending the employment for the people of the state.
Taking a jibe at the BJP, she said" BJP used to ask Sachin ne century mar li, pyaz kab century marega (Sachin has scored century, when will onion hit the century). Now, I want to ask, Virat ne century mar li aur pyaz ki b century ho gai (Virat has scored a ton, and onion too).

On Telangana assembly elections, Goa CM Pramod Sawant says, "BJP is winning in Telangana with a huge majority...Here, the BJP is competing with BRS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party has done the work of connecting Delhi with the Northeast states. While addressing the people of Mizoram via video conference, the Prime Minister said that Mizoram has the potential to become a global tourist hub, and when infrastructure improves, it will help trade, talent, and tourism.
The Assembly polls in the five states will be held between November 7 and November 30. Mizoram will go to polls on November 7, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30 while Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is set to file his nomination from Sardarpura seat today. Voting in the state will be held on November 25.
The election campaign for the first phase of 20 seats in Chhattisgarh and all 40 seats in Mizoram ended on Sunday. Voting will be held in these two states on Tuesday, November 7, while counting of votes will take place on December 3. Voting for the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 17.
Girraj Singh Malinga, a Congress MLA from Bari who joined the Bharatiya Janta Party on Sunday, said that he switched parties because the leaders were being targeted in the party one by one, as reported by the news agency ANI. Rajasthan is headed for Assembly elections on November 25.
After joining the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Malinga said that the Congress leadership had not even inquired about the reasons for his departure.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its fifth list of 15 candidates for the ensuing General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan, accouncing candidates for 198 out of 200 seats in the state. The party has fielded Unemployment Association President Upen Yadav from the Shahpura seat.
Locked in a bitter poll battle with the ruling Congress in the state and eyeing a comeback, the BJP has dropped sitting MLA from Mawli (Udaipur) Dharmnarayan Joshi and fielded KG Paliwal from the seat instead. The party has also fielded some new faces such as Gopal Sharma from Civil Lines and Ravi Nayyar from Adarsh Nagar.
Earlier in the third list, the saffron party had announced the name of Poonam Kanwar Bhati, the daughter-in-law of former minister Devi Singh Bhati, but replaced her with her son Anshuman Singh Bhati in the Kolayat seat. The 200-member Rajasthan Assembly will go for polls on on November 25 and the results will be declared on December 3.
