A voter turnout of 51.30 per cent was recorded in the Jalandhar West assembly bypoll in Punjab on Wednesday, a sharp drop from the 67 per cent in the 2022 state election. Polling came to an end at 6 pm but the Election Commission may update the turnout figure later.
A voter turnout between 63 per cent and 75 per cent was recorded in the bypolls in three assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh, according to data shared by the state election department till 5 pm. The Nalagarh assembly constituency recorded the highest polling of 75.22 per cent, followed by Hamirpur (65.78 per cent) and Dehra (63.89 per cent).
Four people were injured in a clash between supporters of rival parties at a polling booth in Uttarkhand's Manglaur assembly constituency where bypolls were underway on Wednesday, police said. Polling was also underway in the state's Badrinath assembly constituency. By 3 pm, a voter turnout of 56.21 per cent was recorded in Manglaur and 40.50 per cent in Badrinath. In Manglaur, the BSP has fielded Ubedur Rehman, the son of party MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari whose death necessitated the bypoll, against Congress' Qazi Nizamuddin.
A voter turnout of 42.60 per cent was recorded till 3 pm in the Jalandhar West assembly bypoll in Punjab on Wednesday. Jalandhar West is witnessing a multi-cornered contest with major political parties such as the ruling AAP, the Congress and the BJP vying to outdo each other. Amid tight security arrangements, polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Votes will be counted on July 13.
According to the voter turnout data till 1 PM, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have crossed the 50 percent voter turnout mark.

Voting For Assembly Bypolls In Bengal
Polling began for by-elections in four assembly seats in West Bengal on Wednesday, amid heavy deployment of security forces, an official said. Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.
Three of the four constituencies - Maniktala in Kolkata, Ranaghat Dakshin and Bagdah in North 24 Parganas - are in the southern part of the state. The fourth, Raiganj, is in north Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district. There are around 10 lakh voters across the four assembly segments.
Voting Begins For Bypoll In Bihar's Rupauli
Polling began for the by-election to the Rupauli assembly seat in Bihar on Wednesday, amid tight security arrangements, an official said. The voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.
More than three lakh voters will decide the electoral fate of 11 candidates. The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of sitting MLA Bima Bharti, who won the seat for JD(U) several times but quit the party to contest Lok Sabha elections on an RJD ticket.
She lost her deposit in the parliamentary poll and is again in the fray for the bypoll as an RJD candidate.
The JD(U) has fielded Kaladhar Prasad Mandal, who had contested the 2020 assembly polls from Rupauli as an Independent. Former MLA Shankar Singh, who had quit the LJP (Ram Vilas) headed by Union minister Chirag Paswan, is also in the fray as an Independent.
