On Cyclone Dana, IMD Director, Manorama Mohanty said: "... A severe cyclonic storm crossed the Odisha coast. The landfall process went on from yesterday midnight to 8.30 am today. It has now weakened to a cyclonic storm... In the next 6 hours, it will weaken into a deep depression. The current wind speed is 65-70 kmph gusting to 85 kmph... The rainfall will continue for the next 24 hours, and then reduce drastically tomorrow..."
On resumption of flight operations resume at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport following cyclone 'Dana', Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan said: "After the cyclone landfall completed, we reassessed the situation and inspected all the areas to check for any damage and resumed operations around 8 am today. Right now the operations are normal and running smoothly."
The Met office on Friday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, as the severe cyclone 'Dana' weakened into a cyclonic storm after completing landfall process in neighbouring Odisha.
The weather office has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in Purba Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia and Bankura districts on Friday. Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram districts are likely to get extremely heavy rain.
Dana has completed the landfall process between Dhamra and Bhitarkanika in Odisha on Friday morning, and is likely to weaken further into a deep depression by Friday afternoon.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that one person died in the state in cyclone Dana, even as the administration evacuated around 2.16 lakh people from the low-lying areas.
Banerjee, who held a review meeting at the state secretariat after spending the night there to monitor the situation, directed the officials to ensure that relief materials reach all those affected by the cyclone.
"Only one person died in this natural disaster. The man died at his residence while conducting some cable-related work. It is quite unfortunate. The postmortem examination will give us a clear picture. If required we (state government) will help the family," Banerjee said.

Waterlogging in parts of Kolkata as the region receives heavy rainfall in the wake of Cyclone Dana.
Apart from the cancelled trains (which were notified earlier), other trains will run as per schedule, say Ministry of Railways following Cyclone Dana.
Down Trains coming from South (Visakhapatnam side) towards Bhubaneswar & Howrah are now running. UP Trains from Kharagpur side towards Visakhapatnam will be received at Bhadrak Station at about 1400hrs [2 PM]. First scheduled train is 12245 Howrah-Bangalore Duronto Express. Trains scheduled to originate from Bhubaneswar and Puri will commence after 1200hrs [12 noon], on Friday, except notified cancelled trains.
The landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm Dana was complete on Friday morning and the system took at least eight and half hours to enter the landmass, IMD said. The IMD in its hourly bulletin said: "The landfall process has been completed."
The landfall of 'Dana' started at about 12.05 pm on Thursday night and it took around eight and half hours to end the process. The landfall process was completed at around 8.30 am on Friday, an IMD scientist said.
Flight operations resumed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata at 8:50 am today (Friday). The services were suspended since yesterday due to Cyclone Dana.
Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport resumed operations on Friday morning as the weather conditions became normal in Odisha's capital city.
The airport had suspended operation from 5 pm on October 24 in view of cyclone Dana which made landfall between Dhamra and Bhitarkanika from midnight to early morning.
ADM Bhadrak, Shantanu Mohanty said that electricity and other things have been restored in the district while people were already evacuated to cyclone shelters.
"Fire Services, ODRF and NDRF teams have been moved... There has been a red alert in Bhadrak as heavy rain is expected. We have conveyed the message to the people not to go out...," he added.
Cyclone Dana which started its landfall on Thursday night hit Dhamra port on Friday morning. The cyclone started approaching the port at around 2 am on Friday characterised by strong winds and heavy rainfall, reported Ankit Gupta.
People were evacuated from vulnerable places and brought to cyclone shelters in several districts of Odisha and Cyclone Dana made landfall on Thursday night. According to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, over 5,00,000 people have been evacuated and the number could reach around 6,00,000 till Friday morning.
Flight operations would resume from 8 am instead of 9 am at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport, said Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan.
Flight operations were affected in Kolkata as Cyclone Dana made landfall on Thursday night and Friday morning. Several flights arriving in the city were delayed due to the inclement weather condition.

The cyclonic system intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Thursday and began the process of landfall on Thursday night which continued till Friday morning. Gusty winds coupled with heavy rains lashed parts of Odisha including the coastal districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore and nearby Jagatsinghpur district with wind speeds reaching 100 kmph to 110 kmph.
The inclement weather conditions uprooted trees at several places however, there has been no report of any major damage or casualty, according to officials.
Mrutunjay Mohapatra, Director General, India Meteorological Department said the region where the landfall commenced would witness high-velocity wind at the speed of about 120 kmph till Friday morning. The landfall also accelerated the tidal surge, which could go up to two metres above the astronomical height, in Kendrapada, Balasore and Bhadrak districts, he added.
The weather department said that light-to-moderate rainfall in most places and heavy-to-very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall (above 21 cm) at isolated places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsingpur Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khurda and Puri districts are expected till October 25.
On Thursday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah enquired about the Odisha government’s preparedness to tackle the situation arising out of the cyclone.
The CM said that his government was well-prepared to tackle any situation and took adequate measures to mitigate potential impacts.
“We are well-prepared to face the situation. The water level in Hirakud reservoir and other places are being constantly monitored and managed,” the chief minister said as visited the control room at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office in Bhubaneswar.
He also said that the state has already evacuated around 5.84 lakh people from the high risk zones located in the low-lying areas of coastal districts.
