Hyderabad: In a strongly worded 'open letter' to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, KT Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), lambasted Rahul Gandhi and the Congress government in Telangana led by Revanth Reddy for what he described "a year of betrayal and misgovernance".
On the first anniversary of the Congress government in Telangana, KTR accused the party of derailing the state's development and undermining its identity. “By imposing an incompetent and ineffective chief minister, your government has caused suffering across all sectors, from farmers to women,” KTR said in his open letter in Telugu posted on X.
Widespread Discontent Across Sectors Against Reddy Govt: KTR
KTR said the Reddy government had failed to deliver on its electoral promises, specifying that the 420 assurances made in the Congress manifesto remain unfulfilled. “Your government, which came with much fanfare, has shown no responsibility towards Telangana,” he wrote.
There is widespread discontent across the sectors, from agriculture to industry, KTR claimed. Farmers, according to KTR, were particularly hard hit. “Loan waivers and agricultural support were delayed, leading to 620 farmer suicides, but that did not move your chief minister,” he alleged.
KTR also lashed out at the government for its "failure to address unemployment". “Your promise of filling 2 lakh jobs has resulted in only 12,527 positions being filled, leaving 1,87,473 youth disillusioned,” he wrote, accusing the Congress of betraying Telangana’s younger generation.
Women, elderly citizens, and marginalised groups have also been let down, the BRS leader said. “Apart from a partially implemented free bus travel scheme, none of the promises made to women have been delivered,” he stated, adding that the promised increase in pensions for the elderly, widows, and disabled remains unmet.
Allegations Of Corruption
Accusing the Congress government of corruption, KTR pointed to mismanagement of major projects like the Musi river beautification initiative. “This project has cost taxpayers lakhs of crores, exposing the rampant corruption under your administration,” he said.
KTR also condemned what he termed attempts to erase Telangana’s cultural identity, citing renaming initiatives and the installation of statues as examples of Congress’s diversion tactics.
The letter concluded with a warning from KTR. "As soon as the BRS returns to power, it will restore the names of institutions and remove the symbols that your government imposed to mask its failures. The people of Telangana will not forgive the betrayal of their trust and identity,” he wrote.
KTR called on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress government in Telangana to stop their “diversion tactics” and fulfil their promises, urging them to prioritise the welfare of the people of Telangana.
