The Lok Sabha election results have come as a jolt to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition, headed by chief minister Conrad Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP). The two seats of the state — Shillong and Tura — have been won by the Opposition, with the NPP polling 24.22% of the total votes. The Congress got a vote share of 34.05%, while the Voice of the People Party (VPP) – a three-year-old outfit that made its debut in the 2023 assembly election
