Former US President Donald Trump Injured In Assassination Attempt

Former US president Donald Trump was addressing a campaign rally on Saturday in Pennsylvania when a shooter tried to assassinate him.

Trump had just started his speech when gunshots were heard, and a bullet hit Trump's right ear.

The former US President, seen bleeding after the shooting, said on social media he knew immediately that something was wrong. ...I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin, he said.

Members of the Secret Service immediately jumped in to protect Trump but questions have been raised about the alleged oversight that allowed the shooter to get so close to the rally venue.

The suspect has been identified by the FBI as Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks. One audience member was killed in the attack, while two were critically injured.

Crooks was shot in the head by the US Secret Service counter-assault team.

The Republican National Committee and Trump's campaign team said in a statement that the former president was doing well, and was grateful to law-enforcement officers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and said violence has no place in politics and democracies. He wished Trump a speedy recovery.

US President Joe Biden also condemned the attack, and said there’s “no place in America for this kind of violence.
