Why Barzakh Has Been Pulled Down In Pakistan? Know Details
Barzakh is a 2024 Pakistani fantasy drama television series directed and written by Asim Abbasi. The series features Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the lead roles. The show premiered on July 19, 2024, on ZEE5.
Barzakh is the story of a man (Jafar) who is in quest of meeting and getting married to his departed lover (Mahtab), who is now a part of the other world.
Salman Shahid, Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed and M Fawad Khan as Saifullah play the lead roles in the 6 episode series accompanied by other supporting actors.
Saifullah, who is the elder son of Jafar, is a homosexual who is attracted to the Italian chef at his father's hotel 'Mahtab Mahal'.
Saifullah's storyline drew significant criticism in Pakistan, with some accusing the makers of promoting an LGBTQIA+ agenda.
Controversy erupted when two male characters almost shared a kiss. Critics accused the series of “twisting the Islamic concept of Barzakh into a fantastical narrative filled with vulgarity, LGBTQ, and promoting Illuminati and Jewish Kabbalah magic.”
A redditor commented, Have decided not to watch it. Art isn’t worth compromising my imaan over. People tryna make it seem trivial but acceptance of homosexuality itself is a grave sin. So I don’t need to watch anything that contradicts my values.
In response to growing criticism over its portrayal of queer love, channel Zindagi announced on Tuesday that it will voluntarily remove the series ‘Barzakh’ from YouTube Pakistan starting August 9.
'Barzakh’ premiered worldwide on Zindagi's YouTube and ZEE5 on July 19. Its finale will be aired tonight on August 6.
