Why The Election Commission Of India Postponed Mizoram Counting Day

ECI has said the counting of votes for 2023 Mizoram polls will be carried out on December 4, instead of December 3

EC said it received representations from various quarters requesting a change in counting date

Demand for date change was on the ground of Sunday being a 'sacred day' for the people of Mizoram, a Christian-dominated state

The counting was earlier scheduled for December 3, along with that in four other states — Rajasthan, MP, Chhattisgarh & Telangana

Polling for the 40-member Mizoram assembly was held on November 7

More than 80% of the over 8.57 lakh people voted to decide the fate of 174 candidates

On December 4, counting will begin at 8 am in all 13 counting centres and 40 counting halls
