IPL Franchises To Change Their Name

The seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway in Chennai on March 22. So far there have been a few teams who have changed their names.

1. Delhi Capitals (Current): Delhi Daredevils (Former)

In 16 seasons of Indian Premier League so far, Delhi have reached the final only once in 2020.

2. Punjab Kings (Current): Kings XI Punjab (Former)

Punjab have also reached IPL finals only once in 2014. They had lost to KKR on that occasion.

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Current): Royal Challengers Bangalore (Former)

RCB, one of the most popular teams in IPL, have not won an IPL trophy. They are the runner-ups of 3 IPL editions (2009, 2011, 2016) and have one of the strongest fanbases among the leagues in the team.

Deccan Chargers did not change their name but were replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad debuted in 2013. The franchise was taken over by Sun TV Network.
