Stoically standing in the placid vicinity of Indraprastha, Purana Qila or the Old Fort is a masterpiece of the ancient glory. The present Purana Qila citadel is thought to have been erected during the reigns of Humayun and Afghan Sher Shah Suri ('The Lion King'). Excavations have revealed traces dating back to the 3rd century BC, during the pre-Mauryan era. During Humayun's rule, the fort was the inner citadel of Din Panah, it was restored in 1533 and finished five years later. Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun in 1540, named the fort Shergarh; during his five-year reign. Purana Qila and its surrounds prospered as the sixth city of Delhi. The massive citadel includes three entrances and a moat, which is presently utilised for boating. If you want to spend some peaceful time in the summer, the lush green lawns kindly graced with various shade trees are a haven. It was built in typical Mughal style and adorned with lavish ornamentation, draws history fans and archaeology enthusiasts on a regular basis. Located in the centre of the city, the fortress has a lovely and tranquil view.
