In Ambernath, a major political shift has strengthened the BJP ahead of local body elections. Several suspended Congress municipal councilors, previously part of the Congress-NCP alliance, have now joined the BJP. Out of 60 seats in the Ambernath municipal council, BJP initially had 27 seats, Congress 12, and NCP 4. Following Congress action against its suspended members, BJP leader Ravindra Chauhan quickly inducted all 12 suspended candidates, giving BJP a clear majority and control over the party symbol. Similar shifts were seen in Kalyan, where a candidate originally nominated by Uddhav Thackeray’s party withdrew and joined the Shinde-led faction just a week before elections.
