Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has criticized the Right to Match (RTM) rule in the IPL auction, calling it unfair to players. The RTM rule allowed franchises to match the highest bid for a player they previously owned, but it was discontinued in the IPL 2022 mega auction to benefit the new teams, Gujarat and Lucknow. Ashwin argues that the RTM rule unfairly skews player value by allowing the original team to retain a player at a lower cost after other teams have bid higher. He explains that the rule creates an imbalance, benefiting only the original franchise and leaving other teams and the player dissatisfied. Ashwin believes that the rule undermines the fair valuation of players in the auction.
