The death toll in the twin hooch tragedies in Uttar Pradesh and the neighbouring Uttarakhand, has escalated to over 90. The consumption of spurious liquor has affected Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur at a large scale where 56 deaths have been reported so far, while 11 deaths have been reported in separate Kushinagar. In Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district the number of those dead has risen up to 23.
Over 200 people have been arrested in a police crackdown, following the massive tragedy, officials said on Sunday. Police raids are being conducted on illegal liquor sellers in many cities of Uttar Pradesh, following the incident.
