International News: Protests Erupt in PoK as Pakistan Imposes Internet Shutdown and Deploys Heavy Security

Tensions have escalated in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK), where widespread public anger against the Pakistani government has reportedly triggered large-scale protests. Anticipating a major mass movement, authorities have imposed a seven-day suspension of mobile and internet services across the region. Heavy security deployment has also been carried out, with reports suggesting that around 10,000 personnel from the Punjab Police, paramilitary forces, and the Pakistan Army have been stationed to control the situation. The protests, organized under the Awami Action Committee banner, are driven by issues including inflation and demands related to refugee seats and governance reforms. Prior to the planned demonstrations, clashes and incidents of firing were reported in areas such as Rawalakot, with claims of casualties emerging from the violence. Curfew-like restrictions have also been imposed in Muzaffarabad as authorities attempt to contain unrest. Meanwhile, the Awami Action Committee has reportedly been labeled a terrorist organization by Pakistani authorities, further intensifying tensions. Despite the crackdown, protests are expected to continue, reflecting deepening dissatisfaction among local residents over economic hardship and political grievances in the region.
