Vande Mataram: Police Display Honours Lachit Borphukan and Kanaklata Barua

A vibrant police tableau showcased the courage and legacy of Assam’s historic heroes during a patriotic display titled Vande Mataram. The programme opened with a dynamic motorcycle drill, the Cycle Rider Police Panthers on Wheels, followed by a precision formation that recalled the 1671 Battle of Sarai Ghat led by Lachit Borphukan. Organisers noted that Lachit’s valor is still commemorated today when the nation awards its best cadet a gold medal in his name. The display continued with an emotional tribute to Kanaklata Barua, the 17-year-old martyr who confronted British forces while holding the tricolour, symbolising that patriotism transcends age. The sequence, choreographed by Senior Officer Kishore Ray and a team of sixteen women performers, combined historical tableaux, marching contingents, and an aerial observation segment to underline the police’s commitment to internal security and national unity. Lance Naik Sonia and her fellow officers participated in a stirring re-enactment that highlighted civilian sacrifice and bravery. Officials emphasised that the formations are both a remembrance of past struggles and a demonstration of modern police readiness to safeguard the nation. The event concluded with a roll call of honorees and a reaffirmation of the values of duty, sacrifice, and unity that the tableau sought to inspire across generations.
