UP Politics: Akash Anand Gets SP Invite After BSP Exit, Eyes on 2027 Dalit Vote
The political fallout from Akash Anand’s exit from the Bahujan Samaj Party has taken a new turn, with the Samajwadi Party openly indicating that he would be welcome if he chooses to align with its ideology. The development comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, putting renewed focus on the state’s Dalit vote and the wider political battle among major parties. Responding to Akash Anand’s removal from the BSP, Samajwadi Party leaders criticised Mayawati’s decision and argued that the Bahujan movement should be based on equality and social justice rather than family considerations. The SP also highlighted its PDA strategy, referring to the political mobilisation of backward classes, Dalits and minorities. Party leaders claimed that the Samajwadi Party has already expanded its representation among Dalit legislators and MPs and said its focus remains on taking forward the social justice agenda associated with Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. On the possibility of Akash Anand joining the SP, the party maintained that there have been no formal talks so far and cautioned against drawing conclusions too quickly. Leaders pointed out that Akash Anand has faced multiple rounds of removal and reinstatement within the BSP and suggested that the latest expulsion could potentially be followed by another change. The latest remarks have nevertheless opened a fresh political discussion over Akash Anand’s next move. With the BSP facing internal uncertainty and the SP seeking to strengthen its PDA outreach, Akash Anand’s political choices could become significant in the run-up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections. Any formal announcement regarding his future political association is still awaited.
