Transport cost hike: AITDWA announces freight rate increase amid rising petrol diesel CNG prices
Inflation pressures are set to intensify further as transport operators have announced an increase in freight charges following a rise in fuel prices. The decision has been taken by the All India Transporters Welfare Association, which stated that the continuous rise in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices has made transportation operations significantly more expensive, forcing the industry to revise its rates. According to transporters, the increased cost of fuel has directly impacted logistics and goods movement across the country. Diesel, which is a primary fuel for freight vehicles, has seen sustained price pressure, leading to higher operational costs. Similarly, rising CNG and petrol prices have added to the financial burden on transport companies, small fleet owners, and independent truck operators. The revised freight charges are expected to affect supply chains across multiple sectors, including essential goods, manufacturing inputs, retail distribution, and agricultural produce transport. Industry experts warn that the increase in transportation costs could eventually lead to a rise in consumer prices, adding further pressure on household budgets already impacted by inflation. Transport associations argue that the revision in rates is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the logistics sector. Many operators claim that margins have been shrinking for months due to volatile fuel pricing, maintenance costs, and toll charges. The decision to increase freight rates has therefore been described as a step to stabilize the industry and prevent operational losses. However, the development has raised concerns among traders and business groups, who fear that higher transportation costs may disrupt supply chains and increase the cost of essential commodities in the coming weeks. Discussions are expected between industry stakeholders and policymakers to address the growing concerns around fuel-linked inflation and logistics pricing.
