STUDENT PROTEST: Nursing Students’ Agitation Intensifies in Bhopal, Schoolchildren Protest in Uttarakhand

Student protests are continuing in different parts of the country over education-related issues. In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, nursing students have been protesting since August 8 and began a hunger strike on Wednesday. They allege a major delay in the release of nursing examination results and say they have not received scholarships. Students have also raised allegations of irregularities in the Nursing Council and protested by burning effigies of the Health Minister and Registrar. The agitation intensified when some students climbed onto a building and threatened to take their own lives. Police and officials intervened and brought them down safely. Meanwhile, in Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, schoolchildren staged a protest over poor facilities, including contaminated food, dirty drinking water and unhygienic toilets. Parents also joined the protest. The administration removed the school principal and ordered an inspection. Officials assured improvements in cleanliness, drinking water and food arrangements, following which the protest ended.
