State Brief: Tamil Nadu Government Formation Hits Deadlock as TVK Seeks Crucial Allies

The political situation in Tamil Nadu has become increasingly uncertain as suspense continues over the formation of the next government led by actor-turned-politician Vijay. Despite emerging as a key political force, his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is facing a numbers challenge in securing a clear majority in the state assembly. According to political developments, TVK currently does not have the required support of 118 MLAs needed to form the government. Even after factoring in support from the Congress party, the alliance reportedly falls short of the majority mark, leaving the final outcome uncertain. In an effort to bridge the gap, TVK has reportedly reached out to smaller parties including the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). Together, these parties hold a small but potentially decisive number of seats that could influence the government formation. However, these parties have not yet declared their final position, and are expected to announce their decision later today. Political observers suggest that they are weighing options carefully due to their long-standing association with the DMK-led alliance, as well as current political pressure from both major fronts. Meanwhile, Governor-level procedural delays have added to the uncertainty, with reports indicating that the oath-taking proposal linked to Vijay’s leadership has been returned for reconsideration twice. This has further intensified the political deadlock in the state.
