A major incident was reported at Srinagar Airport after an IndiGo flight from Mumbai reportedly developed a braking problem while moving towards its parking bay after a safe landing. Flight 6E 225 landed at Srinagar in the morning and was heading towards the docking area when the aircraft reportedly failed to stop and collided with a pole installed as part of the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS). The impact severely damaged the aircraft’s front nose section and uprooted the parking-bay pole, as seen in visuals from the airport. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members on board were reported safe, with no injuries. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of people on the aircraft, although initial estimates suggest around 150 to 160 passengers and crew members may have been onboard. Authorities are investigating whether the incident was caused by a technical malfunction, human error or another operational issue. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials are examining the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the collision. Airport authorities said standard safety procedures were immediately implemented, passengers were safely evacuated and flight operations, which were briefly affected, resumed shortly afterwards. The incident has once again raised questions about operational safety at Srinagar Airport, following another IndiGo aircraft incident reported at the airport last year in which an aircraft’s nose section was damaged after contact with a ladder.
