Shravan 2026: Shravan Begins with Grand Shiva Worship as Kanwar Yatra Commences Across India

The holy month of Shravan (Sawan) has begun, marking one of the most significant periods for Lord Shiva devotees across India. Thousands of worshippers gathered at major Shiva temples from early morning, including Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, and Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, where special prayers and rituals, including the traditional Bhasma Aarti, were performed. The beginning of Shravan also marks the commencement of the annual Kanwar Yatra, during which devotees collect holy Ganga water from Haridwar and carry it to Shiva temples in their hometowns as an offering. The pilgrimage, which attracts millions of participants every year, will continue until August 11. Authorities have deployed extensive security and crowd-management measures to ensure a safe and smooth journey for pilgrims. Many devotees also observe fasting and special prayers on the first day of Shravan, filling temples with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole.” The celebrations reflect the deep spiritual significance of Shravan and the enduring devotion of Lord Shiva’s followers nationwide.
