SATYA NIKETAN: Seven Deaths After Building Collapse, MCD Begins Demolition of Adjacent Unsafe Structure
Following the death of seven people in the September 6 Satya Niketan building collapse, authorities have begun demolishing a severely damaged building located next to the collapsed five-storey structure. MCD workers are manually breaking the upper portions of the building with hammers because the area is highly congested and narrow, making bulldozer operations unsafe. The demolition began around 9:55 AM, and after nearly two hours of work, only part of an upper wall had been removed. Workers are also clearing items such as air conditioners, temporary shelters and green shades from the structure. Officials indicate that completely demolishing the building could take several days because of the manual process and safety concerns. The adjacent building has been declared unsafe and is considered a serious threat to residents. The demolition is part of intensified MCD action following the Satya Niketan tragedy, as authorities continue to inspect and remove dangerous or unauthorized structures in Delhi.
