Punjab-Haryana Shambu Border: Farmers Forcibly Removed by Punjab Police, Tents Bulldozed
At the Shambu border between Punjab and Haryana, Punjab Police forcibly removed protesting farmers who had been staging a sit-in for the past 13 months. To clear the protest site, authorities deployed JCB machines and bulldozers to dismantle tents and other structures. Several farmers were detained during the operation as officials aimed to restore traffic movement on the highway. The prolonged protest, led by farmer unions including Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), had been causing disruptions, with farmers demanding a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other reforms. Haryana Police also confirmed that once the Punjab side is cleared, the highway will be fully reopened for public use. This police action marks a significant escalation in the ongoing agitation, as previous discussions between farmers and the government had failed to reach a resolution. Despite the crackdown, farmer leaders have vowed to continue their movement, condemning the use of force to suppress their demands.
