Prime Minister Narendra Modi will focus on deepening bilateral connections on the pillars of shared culture and civilisational history, connectivity, energy, and education during his first visit to Nepal on Monday following his re-election in 2019, according to sources familiar with the situation. Following a brief helicopter journey from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, Modi will visit Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Lumbini, the birthplace of Prince Siddhartha, who became Buddha after enlightenment at Bodh Gaya in India. On Buddha Purnima Day, the day the founder of Buddhism, which has nearly half a billion adherents worldwide, was born, enlightened, and attained Nirvana, he will also visit the famous Lumbini historical site.
